Okay everyone, call in sick today, turn off your phone and clear your day planner. Time to clear your head and center yourself. This week’s reggae infusion is from one of my personal all-time favorites, Midnite . Yesterday, the reggae prophets from St. Croix dropped the single for their upcoming album Kings Bell (full album coming November 1). Download: Midnite - Mongst I & I Click here to view the embedded video. Now for those [...]

Rihanna's single, "We Found Love," was produced by British dance music DJ Calvin Harris. It's much more Euro than I would have expected from the Barbados lass, but it's a good Euro. Anyway, there's no point in staying completely regional. Here our latest dance-able mix of Caribbean, funk, and hip-hop artists. Rihanna (feat. Calvin Harris) - We Found Love OutKast - Buggface Major Lazer (feat. VYBZ Kartel) - Pon De Floor Beyonce - Countdown Nicki Minaj - Super Bass The Temptations - I Can't Get [...]
![Monogold – The Softest Glow [Album]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3741570_lg.jpg)
If Animal Collective had to spend one month inside a cave with the instruments from Bob Marley & The Wailers , ambient sounds coming from that cave would be Monogold . This is another band that I fell in love with after L Magazine's Northside Festival. Since I can't stop raving about these guys, it is time for Monogold to be "Earmilked." Monogold is a three-piece experimental band from Brooklyn, New York. Keith, Jared and Mike assemble together to blow a psychedelic chill that lingers through your body and is released into exotic dance [...]

Creole lesson #1: Cho ( adj ) Hot; [see french chaud ] Ok, that's your lesson for today (you're welcome) and that's the only adjective you'll need to describe this week's artist. E.sy Kennenga is native to the small Caribbean island of Martinique. He sings in creole and french but his unique mix of super positive acoustic island energy transcends languages. You don't need to speak creole to understand the message. Now lets see if we can postpone winter a little longer with these "bonnes vibrations." CHO! First up is "Ek Trip" the [...]
![Cuckoo Chaos – Woman [Album]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3722805_lg.jpg)
Cuckoo Chaos comes straight from the coast of San Diego. The tags on their Bandcamp say they are tropical dance jams. Those words and influences from Talking Heads are basically who they are. Each track from Woman breezes through your ears with a coconut-y aftertaste. Perhaps, we can compare these guys to coconut milk, effortlessly rich and nutritious. Woman was released on September 12th and here are a couple of samples. Download: Cuckoo Chaos - Jesus Flag American Fish [...]

You know that feeling of finding a gem like song buried deep in your own iTunes library? Lately, I've had many of these rewarding finds. Take this Los Angeles band for example, Groundislava . Their music is already electronically pop-y with a nerdy twist but Clive Tanaka and Beaunoise 's remix of "Panorama" takes you into another fantasy layer. It's so surreal that I had to share. Download: Groundislava - Panorama (clive Tanaka & Beaunoise Remix)

Once described on Earmilk as an "eccentric fairy-tale-er", Wise Blood is a band from Pittsburgh with the ability to make incomparable pop music. Saying "pop" doesn't justify the band's diversity because every track creeps on something different and throws the band to another genre. However, there is a pattern of hip hop samples, gospel cries, noisy synths and concentrated vocals that occasionally turns into rap. I've been a Wise Blood "groupie" ever since an accidental stumble upon "Loud Mouths" in the beginning of the year. Now after 8 months, I finally saw Wise Blood perform at [...]
![The Drums – Portamento [Album Tease]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3691584_lg.jpg)
It seems like there are a lot of exciting releases for the month of September. Portamento is definitely high up on my album list but instead of waiting until the 13th, Soundvenue generously provided the entire collection so we can stream it right as you're reading this! The Drums are a band that healthily feeds our pop music cravings. Their music brings forth a simple yet flavorful electro-pop base with sentimental choruses that aren't overwhelmingly cheesy. After a successful year of their last album, The Drums continue to nourish us with Portamento [...]

Following a rich tradition of bringing the best concert events to Brooklyn for years, the Brooklyn Music Festival returns with a Labor Day lineup that is sure to please the Caribbean massive. Aptly titled Monday Madness, the biggest show in New York City this Labor Day holiday is set to go down in Brooklyn, NY - a mecca for Caribbean music lovers. Promoter Daddy Grace Entertainment sought out the hottest acts to truly celebrate New York's West Indian Day/Labor Day Parade with none other than the 'King of Soca' himself, Machel Montano, along with dancehall icon Mr. Vegas. One might be quick to judge the sounds of "Inocencia" and "Old School" as tracks coming from a Latin-based producer, when in fact David Ortega (also known as Mendo ) hails from Switzerland. Ortega's newest work for Cadenza recordings out of Switzerland, Stages of Life, breathes youth and vitality into a type of music that is often criticized for being too impersonal and mechanical sounding. The captivating chanting of children in "Inocencia" acts as a platform for an extensive [...]

Earlier this month, I made a post on Headless Horseman which led to some minor misunderstandings. Fareed later contacted me with clarifications and here's the update. Their version of "Jailbait" is a remix of an older French pop song, "J'ME FAIS MAL" by ETYL . The song is not officially released so none of that information is claimed. Although "Jailbait" is not an original from Headless Horseman, it has the same unique HH styling. I've attached a MP3 link for "Jailbait" again and under is "Handstands", a brand new [...]
With the mayhem going on in London and the burning of PIAS' warehouse it been a sad day for our capital and independent music labels. But the Magician has taken it upon himself to raise our spirits and has just dropped a new remix on his soundcloud and it's a remix of Wolf Gang's aptly named 'Stay And Defend' which will be release September 19. Wolf Gang "Stay And Defend" (The Magician 'Caribbean Disco' Remix) by TheMagician

Unfortunately, our beloved hyperactive band Gobble Gobble is no more but they kindly gave birth to Born Gold . They just released Alabaster Bodyworlds as a teaser for all Ex-Gobble Gobble fans and the full album comes out September 20th. This track seems more calm but still has the heavily synth-ed exotic dance beats that we are all used to from GG. Alabaster Bodyworld s makes me want to dance uncontrollably on my kitchen table until the pause at 2:15, creating a flawless ending. Its pretty wild. Download: Born [...]

Three days ago, talented Jens Lekman revealed the title track to his new album. September 20th is the anticipated date. This Swedish artist is such a melodic story teller, I don't think it ever gets old. Lekman's new song, "An Argument With Myself" literally contains lyrics with him arguing with himself ("Shut up. No, you shut up..."). Don't worry, it's an upbeat song with a few tropical beats. To make this more endearing, he posted "An Argument With Myself" for everyone to have a free download. You go Jens. In 1996 I heard "Boombastic" for the first time on Beavis and Butthead. Beavis and Butthead were talking about scoring and ripping on Shaggy’s accent and I was like, Man shut up dudes I can't ... read more

I often hear from bands, "We love vinyl but we don't have vinyl just yet. .." which is understandable. Enter the little internet wonder that is Kickstarter, and bands can pass the virtual hat and make that goal a reality. Our friends in The Caribbean are doing just that with their own Kickstarter campaign to fund the pressing of their new 73 single. The band's Michael Kentoff opines a bit for us on just why: "Slow on the uptake, it [...]

Annie Clark, also known as St, Vincent, launched a Twitter campaign to release a new song from her new album Strange Mercy, which is slated for a September 13th, 2011 release date. California Cornbread: First of all, Earmilk has a new family member. I’m not sure if he’s been introduced yet, but Tom has joined our staff of writers, and I’d like to extend a big, MILKY welcome to Tom. Tom: Appreciate it man, I’ve been a longstanding reader of Earmilk and I was excited to be extended an offer to be part of the team. California Cornbread: So today Tom and I are going to discuss Cris Cab , and more importantly, my interview with him. I heard about [...]
