Aside from finally getting over the hype, embracing Kendrick Lamar and smashing Swimming Pools (Drank) , the track I've been listening to the most this week is (James) Holden's wibbly and choatic bumper Renata. There's been a lot of love for the Daphni remix (one of Dan Snaith's nom de guerres - his most well-known is Caribou) but I'd stick with the fantastic original.
Njoy!

As instructed in song format, Dan Snaith decelerates James Holden's Renata as he strips away at its unrelenting drive to allow for the Daphni rework below to thrive as an Afro-affected redux more than ready for the floor. Euphoria unceremoniously dumped in favour of enigma and mystique, ominous vocal drones shadow tempestuous rhythms which feel instantly exotic, though with that inviting as the skiffle shuffles to a standstill across seven, twenty-seven of prime revitalisation. We don't readily give in to the remix, though this one's radical, and rabid, and so readily accessible that it's almost [...]
Behold, new James Holden . His new single "Renata" and the remix by Daphni (née Caribou ) is described by his record label collectively as an "arpeggio extravaganza," which does a more-than-apt job of capturing in a phrase the frenzied feeling of unfolding. Both are beautiful and enveloping, such that when the song ends, the quiet of my music-less room feels a little louder. This single release is in celebration of Holden's new LP, The Inheritors . Still devastated not to be doing Sónar this year, and it's precisely this kind of impactive deep house that only aggravates that sense of impending loss and longing. Inca Pax is the nom de plume of highly dextrous Bristol-via-Plymouth groove practitioner Cameron MacPhail, and By Mystery is something of an exemplary summertime slink the like of which had it been released via Dan Snaith's Jiaolong imprint would've long since (well, relatively speaking) ranked up there among the dance tracks of this year thus far. Instead, it's picked up a deplorably poxy 25 plays in a week or so, [...]

Pour l'occasion, le club des gentlemen en marinière décide de nous réserver une petite surprise en gardant secrètement le nom de l'artiste invité pour l'événement. "Living is easy with eyes closed" - a famous quote from the BEATLES classic Strawberry Fields Forever and probably the credo of the every-day-dreamer in all of us. Those familiar with Four Tet know that he's no stranger to the remix, with an entire two-disc compilation titled Remixes released in 2006. Today, he took to Twitter to address the possibility of another remix comp: people asking if there's going to be a 2nd remixes comp... I can't see it happening I'm afraid... — Four Tet (@FourTet) April 24, 2013 I'll give you the tracklist and you can burn your own copy though. [...]

There's no negating electronic musics being at their best when they're powered by those most cerebral capacities of the human brain, just as there's no doubting the disparate genres thereof now approaching a point of absolute saturation. It's precisely why Daphni is preferable to Modeselektor, or why Pick a Piper pips Gold Panda in the stakes of immediate intrigue. And playing into that same richly academic school of thought, production value and so forth is Canterbury's Koloto , or rather Maria Sullivan to put a name to the otherwise isolated nom de plume. Sullivan tinkers with [...]
Brad Weber is the drummer in Caribou , and most recently has been working on a collaborative side project called Pick A Piper . With Pick A Piper's thoroughly enjoyable, carefree, self-titled album of propulsive dance-pop out now ( buy here ), we decided to find out what Brad was listening to. Drawing on all sorts of different genres from all over the world, this is the music of someone with a truly eclectic, open-minded taste, and will almost certainly open your ears to some new sounds. It may not be news to a young generation of musicians and fans that digital music is the new standard, while physical music is on the decline. Despite all this, it comes as a pleasant surprise that vinyl sales last year hit $177 million , their highest level since 1997. What better way to celebrate than by heading over to your favorite shop on Record Store Day this Saturday to pick up some fine new exclusives? You can browse through the RSD-only releases and participating stores over at the official [...]
★★★★☆ Koze through the looking glass is a reading of bedtime stories for cosmic disco romantics. A follower of its own path and bringing an enchantment honored by the album cover's mediaeval superhero impersonation, its light-fingered grip holds firm throughout. Heavy is the path less travelled, winding up like clockwork until the springs go loco when it does, with sighing vocals indicative of the reassurances Koze consistently offers. Deep house settlers keep things simple, working a little heartening charm that lets you reach your own woozy highs and joys, whether by long unbroken background [...]
Sitting somewhere on the spectrum of 'Australiana' is Mind Maps by Great Earthquake . This is probably my irrelevant organisation of a release that's familiar in parts, but wholly unquantifiable in others. Think vocals with a distinctive 'Australian' voice, and tracks that don't readily fall into some archetypal 'indie' feel. You could say that this is almost world music, but maybe that's just being lazy. What's an interesting thing to note about the feel of this release, is its ability to project a sense of immersion. Despite the fact that it's technically an acoustic [...]
Check out one of two new tracks by Chazwick Bundick's ( Toro Y Moi ) Les Sins project. They are available on 73 vinyl and digital formats through the label imprint of Caribou's Dan Snaith, Jiaolong. I'm diggin the dynamics and bass on this song. You know you can't get enough of that 808 sound. - Conrad
