We sat down with Carina Round after her show to talk about the ups and downs of defiantly creating an album and tour without a label.

We first became aware, nay intrigued, by Carina Round when we saw her supporting the Gutter Twins in Oxford a few years back. We purchased a CD-R at the gig, which showed considerable promise with its mix of experimental indie rock and folkish tendencies and a voice that is as expressive and unique as any currently out there. Carina Round is a woman of many voices, full of vigor and empowerment one moment, tender and vulnerable the next, and a bit art-damaged at others. All speak in varying tones on "Tigermending," the U.K.-bred, Los Angeles.-based songstress's first album in five years. Compared to PJ Harvey in her early days on Interscope, Round has slowly grown into her own music during her years in L.A. — owing, she reasons, to her seemingly expanding circle of collaborators. Despite her decade-long career as a solo artist, part-time Puscifer singer Carina Round isn't exactly a household name. Yet on her upcoming LP, Tigermending , the Los Angeles by-way-of England native managed to snag some pretty big names to lend their talents to the album, including Brian Eno , Billy Corgan , and Dave Stweart (Eurythmics). Both Eno and Stewart will appear on a track entitled "The Secret of Drowning," while Corgan guests on "Got To Go - The L.A Song - 2000 Years BC Mix" (I wonder if he came up with that title). [...]

This is the first music video from the band, and the production process reunited Early Winters vocalist Carina Round with director Seth Dalton, who she worked with as a solo artist on her music video for "Backseat." In describing the "Spanish Burn" video, Dalton, a fan of narrative music videos, says he thought it would be fun to play with the song's lyrics and go off in a "bizarre Foreign/70s/Lynchian/Spy/Melod rama/ WTF tangent." When we last heard from U.K.-bred, L.A.-based songstress Carina Round , she was releasing an EP as part of the Early Winters . She's been busy; Round has a full-length in the works for next spring — collaborators include Billy Corgan, Dave Stewart and Brian Eno — and she's guesting with Maynard James Kennan's Puscifer , with whom she will tour as a member and as the opening act.
