EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: Carina Round

The Last Time by Carina Round Directed by Scott Rhea
We sat down with Carina Round after her show to talk about the ups and downs of defiantly creating an album and tour without a label.

LIVE REVIEW: Carina Round @ Cafe du Nord, SF 5/8/12

Carina Round was badass, extraordinary, and captivating in her performance at Cafe du Nord.

Tonight in Music: White Hills and Carina Round

White Hills - "You Dream You See" [Music Video]
WHITE HILLS, KINSKI ( Mississippi Studios , 3939 N Mississippi) The space cadets from New York's White Hills are all about propulsion—they won't shy away from a meandering psychedelic passage or three, either. Over the past few years White Hills have left in their wake a purple haze of CDRs, 7-inches, EPs, and a couple of long-players that are as much druggy fun as staring at a black-light poster while chewing on a bag of mushrooms. (Or so I've heard.) The band's latest, Frying on This Rock (on the otherworldly Thrill Jockey label), captures the band [...]

Free Album Sampler From Carina Round

We first became aware, nay intrigued, by Carina Round when we saw her supporting the Gutter Twins in Oxford a few years back. We purchased a CD-R at the gig, which showed considerable promise with its mix of experimental indie rock and folkish tendencies and a voice that is as expressive and unique as any currently out there. Since then we loosely kept up to date with her activities, but as yet had not checked out her recently released debut album proper Tigermending . Well, not until we heard these four [...]

Lee Fields & The Expressions - Still Hanging On (Faithful Man)
Won't you give Lee Fields another chance?Ask yourself: are you over it, or are you going to nurse a grudge? How long are you going to be mad at someone close to you for a perceived sin or sin of omiss

Tonight in L.A.: Metronomy, BRAD/Everest, PAPA, James Morrison, Tennis System, James Murphy, Amen Dunes, Say Anything, Carina Round

Metronomy - The Bay
Top picks on a monster Thursday night: ► In between dates opening for Coldplay, U.K. electro quartet Metronomy plays the El Rey Theatre, with Ben Browning (of Cut Copy) supporting. That's Metronomy's stylish video for "The Bay," above. ► BRAD , the long-running project featuring Stone Gossard, Regan Hagar, Keith Lowe and Shawn Smith, headline the sold-out Troubadour behind their April release "United We Stand." Newly signed to ATO , local quintet Everest opens. ► U.K. singer James Morrison headlines the Avalon Hollywood, supported by Honeyhoney. [...]

New releases for the week of May 1, 2012

New releases for the week of May 1, 2012 We can expect a lot of hype surrounding B.o.B 's Strange Clouds this week. Will the rapper successfully sail past the sophomore slump? Little Broken Hearts from Norah Jones is sure to be the talk of the town as well. But, of course, that's not the only record on our radar. The Spinto Band 's Shy Pursuit is another interesting album--the band have chosen to release it on their own Spintonic label. Pieces from Charlene Kaye 's Animal Love have sounded very impressive, and Carina Round [...]

ALBUM REVIEW: "Tigermending" by Carina Round

As a touring member of Maynard's Puscifer, it won't surprise you to know that Carina Round's new album Tigermending is a bit dark, maybe even a bit demented.

Download: Carina Round, 'Girl and the Ghost'

Download: Carina Round, 'Girl and the Ghost' Carina Round is a woman of many voices, full of vigor and empowerment one moment, tender and vulnerable the next, and a bit art-damaged at others. All speak in varying tones on "Tigermending," the U.K.-bred, Los Angeles.-based songstress's first album in five years. Compared to PJ Harvey in her early days on Interscope, Round has slowly grown into her own music during her years in L.A. — owing, she reasons, to her seemingly expanding circle of collaborators. She's a touring member of Puscifer, lending her vocals to Maynard James Keenan's project, and has also teamed up with Greg Dulli's [...]

Carina Round collaborates with Billy Corgan, Brian Eno on album

Carina Round collaborates with Billy Corgan, Brian Eno on album Despite her decade-long career as a solo artist, part-time Puscifer singer Carina Round isn't exactly a household name. Yet on her upcoming LP, Tigermending , the Los Angeles by-way-of England native managed to snag some pretty big names to lend their talents to the album, including Brian Eno , Billy Corgan , and Dave Stweart (Eurythmics). Both Eno and Stewart will appear on a track entitled "The Secret of Drowning," while Corgan guests on "Got To Go - The L.A Song - 2000 Years BC Mix" (I wonder if he came up with that title). [...]

[Review/Listen] – Puscifer – "Conditions Of My Parole"

[Review/Listen] – Puscifer – "Conditions Of My Parole" Tweet I have a confession to make. I am a huge fan of Tool , A Perfect Circle and all things Maynard James Keenan . HUGE. That being said, I can already see your cursor poised over the Back button, ready to click, but WAIT, hear me out. Puscifer ( puss-if-her ) is a horse of a different color and shouldn't be grouped together with Maynard's other creative accomplishments. Puscifer's music isn't intimidating, like Tool can be, nor [...]

Early Winters Releases "Spanish Burn" Music Video

Early Winters has released the official music video for "Spanish Burn." This is the first music video from the band, and the production process reunited Early Winters vocalist Carina Round with director Seth Dalton, who she worked with as a solo artist on her music video for "Backseat." In describing the "Spanish Burn" video, Dalton, a fan of narrative music videos, says he thought it would be fun to play with the song's lyrics and go off in a "bizarre Foreign/70s/Lynchian/Spy/Melod rama/ WTF tangent." And that he did. We particularly love the Hipstamatic-esque camera effects that were used [...]

Stream: Carina Round, 'The Last Time'

Stream: Carina Round, 'The Last Time' When we last heard from U.K.-bred, L.A.-based songstress Carina Round , she was releasing an EP as part of the Early Winters . She's been busy; Round has a full-length in the works for next spring — collaborators include Billy Corgan, Dave Stewart and Brian Eno — and she's guesting with Maynard James Kennan's Puscifer , with whom she will tour as a member and as the opening act.
