Believe it or not, it's not some moron that thinks Obama wasn't born in the United States! Despite the White House releasing his long form birth certificate , there are still batshit crazy people that still don't believe him . To you people? I am glad you don't want healthcare. Because you need to die. Soon. Anyhow, there's someone else even more stupid out there. And it's the man that cried racism and then called the cops and had a man arrested - for singing "Kung Fu Fighting" . [...]
Welcome to a new feature segment that we hope to share from time to time. I'm calling this segment Hypem Hunting, and it sprung from the fact that there is SO much music to browse through on the Hype Machine and I was never able to come up with a good way to dig through it all, especially the older stuff that had been posted a while back. So with that, I came up with a little game a while ago where I search for a random word (it could be just about anything) and listenread [...]
They were funky China men from funky Chinatown They were chopping them up and they were chopping them down It's an ancient Chinese art and everybody knew their part From a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip Everybody was kung-fu fighting Those cats were fast as lightning In fact it was a little bit frightening But they fought with expert timing Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting : [...]
I woke up on Saturday with this song inexplicably stuck in my head (as visualized in this equally-inexplicable video): Much later in the same day, I went to a show featuring a lovely local band called The Grayces (full disclosure: I consider all three of them to be friends). After their show, I headed off to my horrible, horrible overnight shift. As my tired ass drove home from work Sunday morning, I popped in their 3-song EP, which you can listen to and purchase here . By [...]

Two very little discussed items that merit more than I have time or space for today is the cultural impact of both the Chinese immigrant population and action movies on Jamaican culture. Fusing the three together however and voila , you have reggae covers of chopsocky exploitation one hit wonder Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas . Kicking ass and taking names today are The Cimarons , Lloyd Parks and Pluto (aka [...]

Oh my god, what a blast from the past it was to research songs for this week's contrast podcast . The theme is "1974" and it was like reliving my childhood to listen to a lot of this music. You can listen to it here . I found a wikipedia page that lists 200 singles from 1974 and I've got to tell you, I knew most of the songs on the list. This is just a [...]
In honor of the Selective Service Twitter feed (@ selectivesrvice ), I've decided to write up my violent songs in 140 characters or less. Let's see how I do: Tenacious D, "Karate Schnitzel" Tenacious D, "Karate" 2 parts of a whole, really: missing leftovers beget violence and some of my favorite over-the-top threats ever. Carl Douglas, "Kung Fu Fighting" "So, it's just you 57 cops against Kung Fu Joe ? Master of kung-fu , [...]

Today it's an attack of the one hit wonders! Although, I do find myself still bustin' a dope rhyme to "Ice, Ice Baby," that song was and is still good. It was Vanilla Ice himself that turned it into something douchey. But, match up Robbie van Winkle's dope rhyme with Carl Douglas' "Kung Fu Fighting" and you have something that is pretty enjoyable. MP3: Vanilla Ice vs. Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Baby
Aromaboy - Sweet kung fu o'mine [mp3] Guns n' Roses - Sweet Child o' Mine Carl Douglas - Kung-fu Fighting yes, yes... visit APC to read the full post, THX!!!

We acquired another kid last night: my 10-year old's best friend, Sam, stayed over night. They got to stay up late, eat junk food for dinner and watch Kung Fu Panda on the big screen. It was an amusing little movie, kinda like Shrek meets Crouching Tiger . I submit for you both the original Carl Douglas version of Kung Fu Fighting and the remade Cee-Lo/Jack Black version, which I think lacks all the graceful subtlety of the original. Hans Zimmer 's soundtrack [...]

The point in childhood where you purchase your own music makes you a discerning little bugger. And I was no exception. In a way, you're shaping your tastes without realising: why else did I prefer The Buggle's follow-up flop The Plastic Age to their mega hit Video Killed the Radio Star . I was becoming a musical snob. But before that I had no pretensions whatsoever. I had no conception of the likes of Bowie, Roxy Music or Marc Bolan until the 80s and Punk was something on the news. For most of the [...]

Forbidden Kingdom is the new Jackie Chan / Jet Li movie that came out this week (or last week), if you like movies with time travel, or inter-dimensional travel, Monkey Kings, Drunken Masters, and people hell bent on revenge then you'll like this movie. I thought it was pretty good, Jackie Chan is pretty funny, as usual, and plays the Drunken Master pretty well, (I think this is his third time playing a drunken master). The action and fighting sequences were fun to watch, the plot of the story wasn't that exciting, and having a kid from Brooklyn [...]

Ha! You think you know DJ stylee?? See here!! What day is it? Sunday?? Then I must be home. Hang on a sec, let me check... Yep, this seems to be my house, and those seem to be my kids. And the lovely lady pottering about the garden bears a resemblance to my Dearest Wife. But I'll examine her more closely later, just to be sure... Dearest Readers, I've been on the road (or more accurately in the air) [...]
(Deel 237 hiero ) Carl Douglas - Kung Fu Fighting label: Pye jaar: 1974 kant a: Kung Fu Fighting kant b: Gamblin' Man Opnieuw een herinnering aan moeders. Als dit op de radio kwam moest het volume omhoog. Later toen ik op judo ging en in mijn maagdelijk witte judopakje voor het eerst de mat opliep bij een wedstrijd in een sporthal in Rucphen, klonk dit [...]
Hey sorry for not posting in so long but I've had computer problems. So here we go! It happens all the time; one band, one song, one placement on the top 40's chart. Today we'll be covering some of my personal favorite one hit wonders from the 70s and 80s. (Featured above is Europe, check out that hair; you know you love it.) A hit single in 1986 by the Swedish rock band Europe swept the worlds top 40 charts. That song was "The Final Countdown." Inspired by [...]

"I just want a Kung Fu Christmas!" One of my favorite holiday songs is a parody. But not some dumb ass "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" horseshit. No. This is a lovingly crafted, sublimely executed Motown holiday parody by the National Lampoon Radio Hour circa 1974, the same year Carl Douglas hit it big with his monster disco soul smash: " Kung Fu Fighting ." So naturally it follows that a "Kung Fu Christmas" was right around the corner . . . [...]
Today is National One-Hit Wonder Day in the U.S., though affection for the one-hit wonder isn't unique to the States. Just this month, New Zealand music television station C4 dedicated an episode of its program, U Choose 40 to One Hit Wonders. A viewer poll on the C4 website determined the 40 songs. Viewers were given 60 options, though "write-in votes" could be sent via e-mail. The Kiwis'
