Some cold downbeat minimal to help us enjoy/wallow in this sad, bleak Saturday. I did a quick search on Hypem (such a reliable source I know) and was shocked to see that Steffi 's recent opus "Sadness" had not been shared.. Completely unfair in my opinion, as this song is so heavily laden with emotion that I get worried about my speakers ability to support it. Delightfully wistful keys and some stark yet emotionally charged vocals. I'm slightly infatuated with this song - can't recommend it enough: [...]

Chart courtesy of The Economist 01. Creative Swing Alliance, "In Love" [ City Fly Records ] ( buy ) Having been repped twice by Danilo Plessow - first with a side on the well loved MCDE 1206-07 doublepack, then with a spot on his DJ-Kicks CD - one can easily guess there's something compelling about Creative Swing Alliance. It's not that they've brought much new to deeply inclined house music; in fact, many of [...]

Artwork by Travess Smalley [ Dial ] ( buy CD ) ( buy mp3s ) Like the Missoni their roster modeled in a recent photoshoot for German magazine De:bug, the Dial label is a family affair, with a long history and an instantly recognizable aesthetic. Despite both "brands" diversification into (among other things) hotels and indie lounge-pop respectively, they are still most widely recognized by their original product: knitwear and a very particular brand of romantic, [...]

We get a lot of e-mails here from bands/DJ's telling us about their new creations and generally bigging themselves up. This is all very well (promotion is the name of the game these days), but our ears pricked up when we received a communication from Portland duo Saudade telling us that their new record, 'The Hooded One's', has been a curse since it's conception. They describe it as 'weird not ambient shoe shit gaze acousmatic noisy garage'. We describe it as fucking mint. And they're giving it away for nish at the moment, head on over to their [...]

A haze of expensive perfume hangs around here. It's why I'm here and there and you flounder along in the mud. I drift, I swear and I have the head in the clouds. It's tremendous. Out there everything could happen. Oh 'ma, I'm the kind of guy who believes in that dreadful statement while you think life is about having fun. Me I just try to make my life more bitter, stimulating and arousing. Sometimes, it comes of, sometimes not. I cry out in admiration when I imagine all those brilliant boys and girls cramped in that boredom whereas [...]

Finally finished my review of Lars Behrenroth and Ripperton's new split single on Liebe*Detail, which is now up on RA. For some reason my writing process has slowed to a crawl, so I only get a paragraph or two per night. I must need a brain lube job or something, maybe some sudoku puzzles, anything to relax my cramped mind. And then there's booze to lay off... Arthur Russell, "Instrumentals - 1974 Volume 1, Track 43 [Rough Trade UK] Jacek Sienkiewicz, "Six Feet Above" [Recognition] [...]
