I'll be doing visuals for Casino Versus Japan when he plays with Deerhunter and Real Estate this Friday and Saturday here in San Francisco. We've done this once before, at LPR in NYC . Should be a great night, see you out there. 10.29 - Deerhunter, Casino Versus Japan (w/ ISO50), Real Estate @ Great American Music Hall 10.30 - Deerhunter, Casino Versus Japan (w/ ISO50), [...]

Deerhunter's lead singer Bradford Cox has built quite a reputation for providing his audience with some fierce live shows, such as performing with fake blood covering his face. This knowledge left me not knowing what to except when I entered the 9:30 club to see them perform their much hyped about October 12th show. Before delving into whatever Deerhunter had prepared, I and my fellow show attendees were granted two great opening acts. The first being an intimate set [...]

Actually, say hello again, because Casino Versus Japan has been here before. The ambient electronic artist wasn't taking a hiatus as the blogosphere would like to suggest, he was just biding his time. Whole Numbers Play, which came out on Carpark back in '02, was his introduction to the indie world, yet despite playing the occasional live show, Erik Kowalski had been living in the shadow of his '98-'02 work; his only release between then and 2010 being 2004's collection of older material, Hitor...
Deerhunter is no stranger to indie-tastic tours. Examples here and here . So anytime the Bradford Cox-led outfit hits the road, you know you're going to get something good. For the band's latest tour, which comes in support of their forthcoming album Halcyon Digest , they'll be joined by the likes of surf pop band Real Estate, Animal Collective's Deakin, electronic musician Casino Versus Japan, and up-and-coming indie rockers Ducktails. Following sporadic dates across the east coast in August, Deerhunter will kick off their roadtrip in Atlanta on October [...]
It's been awhile since we've had a post in the realm of ambient music, so here's a vintage one for you. This is the debut album of Erik Kowalski (aka Casino Versus Japan), and it houses a wide range of sounds and styles that would fall under the ambient umbrella. At 22 tracks [...]

Casino Vs. Japan needs no overlong introduction. The ambient electronic artist has been lying low the past few years, playing one-offs every now and again with the likes of A Sunny Day in Glasgow and Atlas Sound. This year, Erik Kowalski comes back in a big way to show the kids how it's done as he gets ready to drop new material for the first time in over 6 years. His magnus opus thus far, Whole Numbers Play the Basics on the flawless Carpark label, is often considered the American response to Boards of Canada [...]

A new Casino Versus Japan was recently released on Freescha's Attacknine label, I looped this interlude about 15 times the other night, it made falling asleep easier than ever, such a rich sound. One of the most underrated Warp artists has to be Gravenhurst , She Dances veers off into more of a darker tone that's less folk which I know them for and its more like early Broadcast with a hint of Pavement like guitars. Time for crowd friendly indie, [...]

We are back to the regularly scheduled program everybody, 4 songs a day. So today I woke up like usual which is one eye open reaching for my iPhone and checking email, twitter, and facebook before heading to my email and deleting the emails I just read from bed but one thing I noticed was a ton of twittering about a new song by The Knife which was a nice jolt. The song is amazing, it has a great experimental build into this well composed orchestral piece which really relies on these muted beautiful steel drum melodies and [...]

Casino Versus Japan - Artwork by S.Hansen If you asked me years ago what would be my dream release to coordinate it would of been this one. Casino Versus Japan's first album from 1998 reissued with ISO50 artwork?! I can't think of anything better. Casino Versus Japan hasn't released anything in nearly 6 years and having the honor last weekend to have him play a show with Tycho and now them working together on this release creatively, plus ISO50 merchandise on the way I think we will have ourselves something special that will be loved [...]

Thanks to everyone who made it out last night, I had an incredible time and the energy was great. I really appreciate you all sticking around until 2:30am on a sunday night, you're probably hating me this morning though, wish I could buy you a coffee. It was great to be able to check out the other bands too, I've been meaning to see all of them live for a while now. Shigeto turned in an amazing performance with his drums with some great backing visuals by Alex Headup , Adam Hunt, and Martin Thoburn. [...]

Psychedelics can be a touchy subject for some so I won't carry on with this, but considering the weather and how energizing this summer was (it's fall now, i think) it's pretty tough to currently reject the idea of taking a brief nutrition from reality. In honor of our last playlist which was a compilation of weed summer jamz I have a 'working your way towards psychedelics' mix for ya called this is how we trip . No confusion, this is not intended to be a playlist to listen to while you trip as it's way too [...]
