I was thinking the other day, you know what? There's not nearly enough Casiokids content on TGTF for my liking. We never featured the official video for the incredibly fun song 'Finn Bikkjen!', and it's about time! Click here to view the embedded video. You can read our interview with Ketil Kinden Endresen of Casiokids here.

Electronic band Casiokids of Bergen, Norway played an amazing, amazing show at Washington's DC9 on 1st October. After getting blown away by their performance at home and on the second day of Roskilde this year, I definitely had some questions for the guys, and Ketil Kinden Endresen of the band was kind enough to answer them for me. He tells me about their recent trip over here to America and what Roskilde means to him. You recently finished your stay in this great land [...]

Creating a music video, in my opinion, should be about creating art. There are so many intricate elements that should go into a video that are so often left forgotten or, at least, unattended. First and foremost is the song itself - a video must compliment the art to which it is expanding from audio to video. Connecting the two is extremely important. Second is theme. The best videos have some storyline, vague or distinct. Or at least something visually interesting. What started below [...]

Sure we're not the first to say it, nor will we be the last, but LA needs a music festival that holds up to SXSW, NXNW, In The City, CMJ, etc. We're not talking street fests or Muse Expo, we're talking like a downtown LA Artwalk of music. just check the Artwalk each month... the crowd is there, the scene is there, the food is there, but only on occasion the right bands are there - but never all at once. rambling aside, last weekend FILTER Magazine put on the first official Culture Collide Festival at various eastside and downtown [...]
He stands at the foot of the stairs with a closely buzzed red halo of hair and a backpack full of DJ equipment. You never know what someone you haven't met looks like, but sometimes you're still surprised. In this case, I hadn't expected the electronic music producing LightsoverLA to be rocking cutoff jeans and a black t-shirt donning a skull and crossbones. Then again, I hadn't expected him to be a past, present and future metal-head either. "It's kinda funny looking back on it," says Stormy Logan, aka LightsoverLA. "I was that kid moshing at [...]
While Train and his east-coasters are getting ready for CMJ, here in Los Angeles we have a festival going on too! I'm talking about Culture Collide. Filter Magazine's World Music themed festival is finally upon us, starting this Thursday. Eh, and I don't mean World Music as in that section of the record store that always [...]

As I was saying to a Mancunian guitarist last week, music is such a wonderful thing. It means different things to different people, and that's perfectly okay. Same goes for music in a language that might not be your own: you might not understand the lyrics but if you can understand the sentiment and the music moves you and you enjoy it, who cares? This seems to be the rallying cry of Norway's Casiokids , who like Icelandic band Sigur Ros have turned [...]

We at Daydream Station have recently broken through the glass ceiling and entered the world of credentialed journalists (no, we aren't sure why either). In the last few weeks, disco divas Hercules and Love Affair and Norwegian phenoms Casiokids both were generous enough to give us a pair of tickets via the official guest lists for their [Read Full Post...]

Τους ανακάλυψε ο of Montreal Kevin Barnes. Today I bring you the first, in what I hope will be many guest posts, by a writer new to Chicago, Mike Gutierrez. He writes for QRO, Drowned In Sound, the Ampeater Review, and the Deli Magazine, and we're very proud to have him dashing around here at the Shack! He's also great company at a show, we had a blast at the Casiokids gig. They were really just too much fun, and even though I almost knocked down the guy in the monkey suit, I'm pretty sure he forgave me. No one could hold a grudge in [...]
