Caspian (Photo: Mike G.) Photo Gallery: Emily Turner Noise Pop 2013 has come and gone, and it ended on an epically high note. Post-rock mainstays Caspian were towering and majestic, a thing of primal beauty, on Sunday night at Bottom of the Hill, but that being said, supporting act Native was the real story of the night for me, if only because I knew nothing about them going in, and they officially earned [...]

Frightened Rabbit return to Seattle this Friday / photo by Morgen Schuler With the KEXP Spring Fundraising Drive now over (and thank you to everyone who pledged a gift of support), it's time to get down to some live music in Seattle. This week, things start with a couple nice little shows at Easy Street Records in West Seattle with Pickwick on Monday night, and The Cave Singers on Tuesday night. Looking for other options on Tuesday night? There's also a SXSW Send Off Show with Lemolo, OC Notes, Spac3man, [...]
Phil Jamieson, who mans the keys, synth and guitars for instrumental rock act Caspian takes the "post-rock or just rock" questions with a great deal more understanding than many of his more celeb... Continue reading "Caspian Wants to Body-Slam Your Ears" >

Photo by Tim Harmon THIS WEEK'S BEST BET: Every Time I Die w/ The Acacia Strain, Vanna, Hundreth, No Bragging Rights Sunday, February 24 The Masquerade - 695 North Avenue in Atlanta 30306 Admission $17 / Purchase Tickets I've been having this debate in my head about whether or not metalcore stalwarts Every Time I Die have been relegated to guilty pleasure status. Admittedly, I lost interest in the genre a few years ago, and I can't [...]

After finishing up their dates with Junius , Caspian will head out on another leg of their headlining tour, this time with Native in support. Caspian released Waking Season in 2012 via Triple Crown Records .
Northwest Indiana's Native have announced a slew of North American live dates beginning in February, most of which will be with post-rock instrumentalists Caspian. Native recently finished recording their second full length album with Greg Norman (Russian Circles, Pelican) in Chicago. Sargent House will release the album in Summer 2013.

" Animal Life " Shearwater Download Shearwater - "You As You Were".mp3 The top 2 songs of the year come from the same artist, a not uncommon feature in the Vague Space end of the year countdowns, and the sounds of the songs were similar -- shimmering pounding beats slowly ebbing and rising to powerful explosions. Now that the year 2012 is coming to a close us here at WKNC look back at our top five albums of the year once again. Although we might not always agree on what is the most amazing, the love of great music not only kept us excited throughout 2012, but we look forward to the amazing music that it will bring as well. Take a gander at what are a few of the albums we loved throughout this year, as chosen by WKNC DJs. See you in 2013! Sarahnade [...]
Normally we tend to let other people choose the music for our NBHAP Guestmixes but since it is the of the year and it's about time to recap it in the best way, we thought: why not giving you something back for the great support and all the love you've given us in the past?
#1. Moonface with Siinai - Heartbreaking Bravery Well I figure there isn't much reason to leave anyone in suspense because yet again -- for the 7th straight year -- a Spencer Krug album makes its way to the top of a Vague Space end of the year countdown. In 2007, it was Sunset Rubdown. 2008, Wolf Parade. 2009, Sunset Rubdown again. 2010, Wolf Parade's Expo 86 edged out Arcade Fire and Frog Eyes (and looking back, the album I've listened to most since then among the three is Frog Eyes' [...]

#50 to #41 // #40 to #31 // #30 to #21 // #20 to #11 // #10 to #1 ------------------------------ ------------ 40. Caspian - Waking Season Caspain were one of many groups to form in the wake of early '00s post-rock successes like Mogwai, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and EITS, who proved to many aspiring rock groups that indulging in epic songwriting tendencies was neither inaccessible, nor over-indulgent. Not having to find a singer to achieve wide appeal was another plus. Unlike many other admirable [...]

Caspian - Halls Of The Summer

Massachusetts post-rock outfit Caspian do little to nab viewers' attention with their video for "Waking Season". Albeit cohesive, everyone's eyes remain closed and each member maintains this creepy statuesque persona. So, yeah, it's not the sort of impassioned rock performance that can rip people from their seats and get them jumping and shaking along. Instead, its power is far more subtle: the methodical build of the song and the blue lighting/backdrop instill a sense of calm more emotionally rewarding than any fist pump or axe-kick could ever be. Let it overwhelm you below. [...]
