I have to admit I don't know much about Cass McCombs . My first intro to him was really seeing this video on pitchfork...but i found it to be pretty awesome, which is why i am posting it here for you to hopefully watch. Simple video idea, but i think it works pretty well, and the song is pretty heardbreakingly good. I am not as big of a fan of "Dreams Come True Girl", but it's also worth listening. Both are off his recently released (5th!) album Catacombs [...]

Some artists really perfect their craft over time. And I'm sitting on the edge of my seat; waiting for Cass McCombs to do that. Every piece of music has its imperfections, but McCombs' 5th studio album is at an unfair advantage: Because it's so close to greatness, bad decisions stick out like the Jonas Brothers at a black metal show.Catacombs, in retrospect, is the perfect metaphor for this LP.

"Because not everything music bloggers get sent is total shit." This time around - Dam Funk, The Do, new material from Hope Sandoval (pictured), Cass McCombs, a White Lies remix, The Phenomenal Handclap Band and a friendly Fires mashup. The Dø are an oddball Finnish/French duo who despite not singing in French have found success in the charts there. Their album A Mouthful is an eccentric collection of songs with a fairly mainstream heart. It's the voice of Olivia B. Merilahti which bends it towards something more intriguing. [...]

All in all, it has been a tough week. And I don't mean tough as in I have been down a coal mine for the week, slaving away, hard labour. Tough, in the mental way. Looking to my corner, wondering should I wave for the towel to be thrown in, kind of thing. Luckily, in the past few days, I have been reinvigorated. and the dream lives on! However, that can wait until the next blogaruu. Seeing as it is Sunday, a day of chilling, I'd like to talk about another gibber-issue which cropped up again this week. [...]

Cass McCombs has already received positive accolades for his recently released album Catacombs and the LP's first single "You Saved My Life." The single, which has a video to support, stars an undoubted McCombs as he weaves his way through a crowd that's most likely there to see his show, or for some kind of beer/food festival. Judging from the age range, I'll go with the latter. Cass McCombs - You Saved My Life

Catacombs, Cass McCombs ( CD , MP3 ) The somber songs that make up Catacombs are a continuation of McCombs's earlier work A , Prefection and display a mature evenhanded approach to songwriting and arranging. Songs like " Eavesdropping on the Competition ," a quiet waltz of vocal harmonies with just a spare drum, rising pedal steel, and piano; and the sweetly disturbing Lennon-esque lament, " My Sister, My Spouse ," replace [...]

Editor's note: I really couldn't think of a snappy title for this week's Radio Dick post. I'm much too beaten up to think of witty bon mots and clever jangles this morning. In fact, I'm a salty bastard today. I never do well with July 4th festivities because I'm one of those party crashers. I wander around from cookout to cookout until I'm about sixty pounds heavier and slurring my speech. Yesterday was no different, except the cookouts ended early and I found myself sitting at home following inane twitter posts for a majority [...]
