Ghostland Observatory will lazerize WaMu this weekend / photo by Christopher Nelson We've got another great week of shows in Seattle, with a ton of variety. This is a city where you can see a good show just about every night of the week, and this one is no exception. Starting on Monday night, we've got some great Northwest connections back in town with former Fleet Fox Josh Tillman's new project, Father John Misty , performing at Neumos. On Tuesday, there's a psych fest at Neumos with Black Moth Super Rainbow, Lumerians, and Pictorials . [...]

Pond at Buffalo Billiards during SXSW / photo by Jim Bennett Another busy schedule of shows this week. On Tuesday, there's a free performance by The Lumineers at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard, Rodrigo y Gabriela are at Paramount, Kathleen Edwards is at Neumos, and Bowerbirds are at Crocodile with Dry The River [...]

This happened at my house last night. What an ebullient evening of purity and candor. Thanks, Cataldo . [ and thanks Kevin for taping it ]

I've sat down to write this post about fifteen times and never quite get the words out right, because this song by Cataldo (Seattle's Eric Anderson) is much more of an impressionistic short story than a song. Trying to write about my feelings for it is kind of like trying to tell someone about a dream, scratchy-voiced as the sun rises: it never comes out right. It starts with only Eric's words alone in a room for the first several lines, echoing as he tells us a fleshed out, highly personal dream. [...]
The wild, celestial scale of musical largesse has tipped off its fulcrum in my favor, and we are currently splashing around in a sparkly, melodic deluge of fantastic upcoming Fuel/Friends concerts that I am hosting in the coming weeks. I feel truly awed and thrilled; all four of these special headliners have been listed in my year-end tops lists before. You're invited to all four warm wonderful nights, or if you have friends in Colorado, please let them know. Whoever comes from the farthest will get a song dedication and a hug. [...]

Sleigh Bells at Sasquatch! 2011 / photo by Alex Crick A nice extended weekend (President's Day), usually leads to a good week of shows. This week starts with Grimes at the Sunset Tavern on Monday night (sold out, sorry!). On Tuesday, Veronica Falls, Bleached , and Seapony are at the Tractor, and Damien Jurado plays a free in-store set at Sonic Boom Records in Ballard. Wednesday night, the extremely talented Cate Le Bon and Charles Leo Gebhardt are at the Crocodile, and Chuck Prophet and the [...]
Seattle's Cataldo creates beautiful indie-folk perfect for those of us who have ever/will ever get dumped. So... all of us.
Now that we've reached the top of our favorite local records countdown, we wanted to have links to all the reviews in one convenient place. While yes, all these albums were released by either Portland or Seattle bands, we hope you don't get stuck on "local" as the important part of the descriptor. Because no [...]
We're counting down our 10 favorite records released in the Pacific Northwest in 2011, follow along! - #4 Cataldo - Prison Boxing (Red Pepper Records) "Let's begin, at the end, of bad year, with bad things at my back. The tragic truth I've been slow in learning, is there are certain breaths you simply can't retract." - [...]
Kelli Schaefer ::: photo by Dylan Priest Having fallen deep down a used-vinyl sized hole this year, I managed to completely miss most of the national blog buzz bands and mp3s making the press release copy&paste rounds of 2011, those things that so often fill end of the year lists. But considering the immense output from [...]
When starting something new, the Field of Dreams question always lingers. If you build it, will they come? As far as baseball fields in Costner movies and the Fremont Abbey's new Cathedrals concert series, that answer is a resounding yes. Over 500 people attended Cathedrals 1 featuring some seriously goose-bump making sets by Mychal and [...]
Nothing has enchanted me more in October than this video of Noah Gundersen and his siblings covering CSNY's "Helplessly Hoping," one of my favorite songs of all time. This frills free cover takes full advantage of the reverb of the room and the Gundersen's familial honeyed harmonies accentuates everything I loved most about the original, [...]
The second annual City Arts Fest gets the weekend started early this Thursday with something for just about everybody: punk rock at the Comet, a soulful sold out show at The Triple Door, some of Seattle's finest songwriters at the Showbox, a dance party at The Paramount and more. We'll be sharing our daily City [...]
Kelli Schaefer ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth The end of summer should go out with a bang, a thump on the kick drum, a chord that sends a front man's guitar soaring above his head as the vivid lick fades into falling leaves, and then the white silence of winter. It's why I love fall music [...]
Reverb is just our kind of music festival. Its purely local, its mostly about the little guys and with over 70 bands for just $15 ($10 for under 212ers), it is the cheapest festival in town that isn't free. Sure, there's no international headliners, but the point of Reverb is to show we've got the [...]

Cataldo is the moniker of Seattle-based musician Eric Anderson . His brand-new album Prison Boxing, which he recorded with the help of a couple of friends, contains 9 marvelous folk pop songs. And here's one of them: «Rock of Calvary» . You can get the others on Bandcamp . mp3 | Rock of Calvary
It's hard to believe that this is the last week of new releases for the summer of 2011, but time just flies right by. So it's good that there are a number of notable albums for the final hurrah of summer. Not surprisingly, there is plenty of buzz around the newest offering from the 'blog [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Words // Adam Sharp Talking Prison Boxing , Cataldo's latest album, has been one of the oddest endeavors over the last week or so. Eric Anderson, the guy behind Cataldo , made the album available to the masses to hear just last week, but those who contributed to his Kickstarter project have had the album for almost 4 months as a reward for helping the album see proper release at all. So, you know, I'm talking about something that is new that I've had for 4 months. [...]
