Cate Le Bon Despite my confusion about whether I woke up in Columbus or Austin on Saturday morning, I triumphantly braved the cold and put in a good eleven hours of music listening/show-navigating on my last day of SXSW. My day began with a charming interview with the lovely Cate Le Bon (check back for full interview soon) and then took me to the MOG party where I camped out at for a number of hours. While there I caught performances by Dum Dum Girls , Demolished Thought (again sans Andrew WK), [...]

Austin - It has come to my realization that I will not be able to write long ass reviews for every band I see. So here are some quicky Ricky reviews. Chris Shiflett - The man best known as the lead guitarist for the Foo Fighters also played Monday night's British Embassy night. Why? I don't know, maybe he likes soccer or something. Nothing about his set really impressed me, although with his laid back demeanor, beard, flannel shirt and the panty removing acoustic guitar, I am sure soccer moms everywhere are already taking their [...]
Missing the SXSW festivities in Austin this week? Us too, and it can be a bit of a downer if you dwell on it too much. But it's springtime in Portland this weekend, and the weather is gorgeous! Ted Leo & the Pharmacists are playing two shows at the Doug Fir! Locals Archeology and Marv Ellis are playing album release shows! Plus, Devendra Banhart! Grey Anne! Iretsu! SXSW what? Here's another batch of songs to take with you on your way to all the glory the weekend holds. Remember to go easy with that first big sun exposure [...]

1. The Golden Filter - "Hide Me" (Fans of The Knife will love the breathy vocals and icy, 8-bit synths that make up this NY-based duo's first single from their debut, Voluspa .) http://www.thegoldenfilter.com / Download: http://www.thegoldenfilter.com /public/music/hide_me.mp3 2. Cate Le Bon - "Shoeing The Bones" (Quirky and Nico-like, Cate is best known for her vocal contributions to Gruff Rhys's Neon Neon project. First single from her debut full-length, Me Oh My out May [...]

Rollo & Grady is heading to Austin later this week. Almost 2000 bands are participating this year at South By Southwest, and deciding which shows to attend can be overwhelming. After sampling roughly 1200 bands, we selected 200 bands to check out. Many of these artists we've covered in the past, but we've also discovered several new groups that we're excited to share with you. Tomorrow we're highlighting 23 artists that we feel will generate the biggest buzz at (and after) the festival. Adam Green (Myspace) [...]
You may recognize Cate Le Bon 's name from her featured guest vocals on Neon Neon's "I Lust You." Her name may ring a bell because of her UK label deal on Super Furry Animals front man Gruff Rhys', Irony Bored Records. But it is Cate Le Bon's dark and intriguing lyrics paired with her folk-meets-psych-rock music that have perked ears across the globe. Her debut album, "Me Oh My," will see its US physical debut May 4 via The Control Group (El Perro Del Mar, Wildbirds & Peacedrums).

It's Friday night, I'm bored and feeling a bit down, I ate far too much chocolate earlier (again) and am currently wishing I had some popcorn to snack on as well. But I have no popcorn, only tea and apples, so here's some good music I've been meaning to write about and that deserves your attention: ~ She Sir - "Golden Ways" ~ ~ Thrushes - "Crystals" ~ ~ Cults - "Go Outside" ~ ~ [...]

Inbox time! ++This is kind of fun news...about two acts heavily promoted here in the past. Friendly Fires vs Holy Ghosts is a split LP in which both bands cover the other bands' songs . I'm picturing a Sharks vs Jets concept video to go along with the project. ++ Seabear is being called a SXSW Artist To Watch by NPR. Hear more of the Icelandic dream pop sextet's [...]

Cate Le Bon ~ "Shoeing the Bones"(mp3) I can't really figure out how to describe the sound, but the beautifully sung morbid lyrics over rough guitar screeches works well together. Cate Le Bon is probably most well known for providing vocals on Neon Neon 's "I Lust You", but she should gain more recognition once her debut album, Me Oh My , is released stateside on May 4th. For those lucky enough to be hitting SXSW, Cate is [...]

Though Le Bon was recently picked up by Indie stalwart Rough Trade, she has yet to make a huge splash on American shores, possibly due to the fact that she hasn't done much touring here. Me Oh My is certainly one of the most exquisitely crafted records this year though, so with a little exposure that could all change soon.
Last seen speeding through the chrome and glitter Delorean inspired world of Neon Neon, Ms. Le Bon has packed up her silver suitcase hung up her moon boots and headed back to her roots. Anyone expecting an album of Roland drum machine influenced rejects will be sorely disappointed, the only whiff of eighties pomp and glamour to be found here is her fantastically ironic New Romantic surname… Instead her debut offering Me Oh My is a crooked take on the usual singer-songwriter fare. Folksy piano led tunes are interspersed with unexpected wonky Moog bleeps and [...]
Coming soon: Two Cate Le Bon dates: Monday 9 November – LONDON – The Social (£4) Saturday 21 November – LONDON – The Borderline (with Nancy Elizabeth) Apologies to those of us who don't live in London.

So why not send our former intern, Jenny Booth, to a festival in the UK, right? Heck, if it helps her with a press pass, we feel pretty damn good about it. -Ed. Having studied my degree in Cardiff—and always longed for a music festival on my doorstep—it was downright mean of Swn Fest's organizers to start it up the year I left school. Three years on, though, and I'm finally in the right place at the right time—if a little apprehensive as to how one of the world's smallest capital cities will rival last months [...]

The Terror of the Man Ever since St. Vincent checked in with her brilliant debut album Marry Me in 2007 I've been on the look out for a female songwriter burning the same desirable flame. Finally I've found her; she is Welsh musician Cate Le Bon and her debut album Me Oh My is the first album from a female solo artist to really excite me since St. Vincent grabbed my attention three years ago. Known already [...]

Maybe you can recall Cate Le Bon's role in NEON NEON's single I Lust You, which Ray previously posted, but behold her debut album Me Oh My . Sure it might have taken some time to complete, but when Super Furry Animal's Gruff Rhys is backing you up with a label basically dedicated to you, there's time to spare for a deserving musician. There's something adorning when you know a musician, like Cate Le Bon , writes [...]

Cardiff's music scene is as strong as it's ever been, and somewhere near the center is brooding chanteuse, Cate Le Bon . Having already contributed to Gruff Rhys and Boom Bip's Neon Neon project, Le Bon continues to work with the Super Furries front man, albeit with Rhys wearing the A&R hat. So impressed with Cate's music, Gruff set up his own label, Irony Bored , to release her album, which is due out on October 5. A new force in song-craft, Le Bon is the [...]
