I thought I'd heard this song before, and it wasn't until I saw an advert for GHD hair straighteners, that the ball dropped. "It's Le Rev!" I cried, and my friends all thought I was super-cool, obviously. The original mix of Lucky You, which is a dark, indie and rock infused track, provides the perfect back drop for the rebellious Cinderella story featured in the ad. Read more..
Le Rev are Nico & C.C. and this is the alternative homemade promo for the single 'Lucky You' - released through Two Black Cats on 6th Dec 2010.

So, cover songs? It's almost a taboo term in the music blogosphere. It almost goes without saying that everyone who makes a post about them has to start with 'I'm not usually a fan of covers but...". I don't see the big problem; I'm a massive fan of remixes and covers. I know the standard arguments: lack of personal originality, lazy musicianship etc., not to mention the horrible Pop Idol style covers you can hear on the radio all day. That being said, I think it's just as easy to criticise a horribly derivative artist under the same banners, just [...]

Last year the google-phobic Girls released one of the year's best debuts with the equally search engine unfriendly title Album . In addition to the fantastic "Hellhole Ratrace", "Ghost Mouth", "Laura", Album also featured the narcotically ringing wish list, plea for love and mission statement that is "Lust For Life", no relation to Iggy's classic of the same name. The above video would have made these guys stars back when MTV had actually had something to do with music. Now American actress C.C. Sheffield has released a throbbing, Gaga-riffic cover that should be filling dancefloors [...]
No, it's not the Iggy Pop song. It's Girls' breezy summer mantra, turned into a club banger.

Það er alltaf gaman af þekjum, jafnt góðum sem slæmum, og því er tilvalið að tína saman nokkrar sem hafa verið að ganga manna á milli undanfarið. Byrjum á frábærri þekju með Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti af hinni glænýju plötu Before Today og rennum okkur síðan í fjölbreytta þekjusúpuna... Some of the best covers are when artists take another bands song and give it a completely new spin. This is exactly what LA artists C.C. Sheffield did with her cover of Girls' "Lust For Life". She gives it a sunny electro-pop spin that the clubbers would love. On the other hand, fans of the original may just shake their heads in disgust. It's light and fun, but not something I will probably go back to ever again. I wonder what Girls think of the cover. Download it below ( via ) [mp3]: [...]
