I'm on the jury for the Prism Prize , which ranks the best Canadian music videos of the past year. I can't think of many (any?) clips better than the one for Mother Mother 's "The Sticks," which was animated by Chad VanGaalen . Check out the unsettling, post-apocalyptic nightmare below. Go to Exclaim! to read my interview with Mother Mother.

Ingram Barss There's been a series of articles The Grid for the past year called Then & Now that has been diligently recording the history of Toronto's musical history by way of its clubs and venues, many of which have been consigned to history regardless of what legendary acts have sweat upon their stages. It's truly fascinating reading - especially if you take the time to look up what sort of pedestrian businesses reside at those addresses today - but it's comforting to know that the [...]

Chad VanGaalen / photo by David Greenwald For the second installment of Altin Village & Mine Records "Green Corridor" series, the label enlisted tour partners Chad VanGaalen and Xiu Xiu. Xiu Xiu's contribution is a miserable 20-minute performance art piece but the Chad side is stunning. VanGaalen's recent electric-oriented Diaper Island was the first of his albums to come a few breaths short of blowing me away, but Green Corridor II finds him in all his experimental acoustic glory. "Your Own Minds End" is a gritty, ramshackle rocker; "Evening Sun" is one [...]
![Chris Reimer – The Chad Tape [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4433091_lg.jpg)
Please bear with me and apologize ahead on this review. If I am not conveying it proper and respect to this great artist that we lost this year . This past February, Calgary and the Canadian Indie Music scene lost Chris Reimer who was a great talented musician. Chris played guitar in the band Women and toured with The Dodos. Women in my opinion came out with the two best albums in recent years for Canadian Indie Music. Thanks to Chad VanGaalen, Chris' work as a solo musician can now [...]
Women guitarist Chris Reimer passed away in February, more or less ensuring that the Calgary band (already on hiatus ) would never record a follow-up to their fantastic sophomore album, Public Strain . However, some of Reimer's solo recordings are now available, thanks to Reimer's friends and producer Chad VanGaalen. Read More...

Thursday night at The Mod Club boasted the best lineup I've seen all year. Nova Scotians Cousins and Dusted opened for Calgary's Chad VanGaalen . All three bands held their own amidst a crowd of enthusiastic fans. First up was Cousins, the work of Halifax native Aaron Mangle. With an ever-evolving lineup, he's joined on this tour by drummer Leigh Dotey, who also provides backing vocals and (sometimes) bass. They're genre-bending, experimental, and a little artsy, but fundamentally rooted in rock (not unlike Mr. VanGaalen). Mangle's vocals go from [...]
![Chad VanGaalen, Cousins & Her Harbour @ Mavericks [July 23, 2012]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4408249_lg.jpg)
I decided that I needed to go out on a Monday night to Mavericks for this show. Since it is still summer why not make the most fun out of the summer (with rain) in July. Playing at the show was: Chad VanGaalen Cousins Her Harbour The show started off with Ottawa's Her Harbour [...]

Although they missed Sasquatch due to visa problems, Scottish noise avalanche architects Mogwai arrived at the Fonda Theater in Hollywood ready to melt eardrums. The band visited a few numbers from its latest full length album Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will along with older favorites "Auto Rock" and "Hunted By A Freak." Fuzz fanatic Chad VanGaalen kicked off the evening. Check out the photos above and the setlist below. Read More...

Listen, I never said I was on top of all my Canadian music - I'm still learning. So when I came across Chad VanGaalen , I realized this guy has probably been around for quite some time but just now has popped on my radar. So what? I just stumbled across his song, Burning Photographs off his record Diaper Island which came out last year, and that's all. Enjoy! Chad VanGaalen - Burning Photographs

Il y a quelques jours un camarade de classe m'a envoyé ce clip : J'ai pas trop regardé la vidéo au départ parce que c'est assez peu discret de faire ça à l'école mais j'ai rapidement accroché au morceau. C'est ... Suite
