Here's the list of my favorite albums outside of Seattle for 2012. You may think it's late, but you should know I got it done before the Russian New Year. Kevin Shields, you still have a few more days. 1. Exlovers - exlovers ( Young And Lost Club ) Exlovers had my favorite single of 2011 and now my favorite record of 2012. Their debut album is a dreampop masterpiece that was a long time coming from this London band. [...]

So Cropped Out 2012 fucking ruled. No surprise there. What was particularly refreshing this year, though: witnessing the coupling of the super friendly, blue collar riverfront resort from a bygone era American Turners Club with the serious momentum the festival had yet to establish when Cropped Out last graced these grounds in 2010. When you turned off River Road into the funky yet scenic facility, you entered a totally different realm, secluded from everything else going on in the city. Or on the planet for that matter. You're fully enrolled in weirdo summer camp. Welcome to it. Approaching [...]
It's that time of year again, time for MPMF - Midpoint Music Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio! This is one of my favorite festivals, taking place all over downtown Cincy from September 27-29. Think of it as a smaller SXSW without as much hassle, closer to home, and a helluva lot of fun! Here's a quick preview for the festival that starts today, as well as some of our picks on where to be! Enjoy, and hope to see you there. For a full schedule of events - click here for the official MPMF schedule page [...]
On Saturday, May 19th, Comet Ping Pong hosted the Kid Congo Power Hour with newcomers Garbage Zone opening up the evening. Not a lot was known about the first band going into the evening, but once things kicked off the very familiar faces in the line-up tore through some familiar tunes. As they put it, "we're a tribute group. We do songs by our favorite Washington, D.C. artists." And deliver on that promise they did. But, as it turns out, this band of newcomers were actually a reunited Make Up , and were testing the waters in advance of [...]

Washington, DC's Chain & The Gang released their newest LP this past June, In Cool Blood . Recorded by DIY mastermind Calvin Johnson at Dub Narcotic Studio in Olympia, Washington and released on Johnson's K Records, the 13-track record is a hyper-intellectual, wise-ass judo punch that effortlessly coalesces elements of funk, psychedelic rock, free-form jazz, and anti-establishment punk under one rackety roof. The tag-team vocal charge of Ian Svenonius and Katie Greer is the captivating unshakable centerpiece of every track here—a perfectly balanced pairing of guttural punk poetry and sassy pop charm. Below, check out [...]
The eyes have it - Ty Segall Band release Slaughterhouse Words : Drake Lelane Welcome back Drake! - ed. I've been taken out of the game for a bit, thanks to Sasquatch! Music Festival (with editing nearly 5k photos) and a new job. There have been some great releases I've lost out on in the process (Fiona Apple's latest, for one), but I couldn't pass up this week's great releases from Ty Segall and DIIV [...]

photo by Angel Ceballos Ian Svenonius was the last musical character of the pre-internet, Washington D.C-Dischord Records era to sneak a seat at the table of legendary front-men, beside Fugazi’s Ian MacKaye and H.R. of Bad Brains. Svenonius’ first band, the Nation of Ulysses, combined the noise and politics of MC5 and Public Enemy in a screaming attack that threatened, outright, to “destroy America.” The vague but powerful manifestos of their album inserts, penned by a young, scrappy Svenonius, certainly make one sentimental for the days before digital music. [...]
1. EMA - Past Life Martyred Saints (Souterrain Transmissions) Listen: Anteroom Martyrs are not victims. There is no self-pity or cool detachment to their pain. Past Life Martyred Saints is an intimate but uncomfortable album, it will make you feel guilty for the hearts you've torn apart and it will make you feel weak for all the times you've been hurt and felt victimized for it. 2. Colin Stetson - New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges [...]

A entrada custa oito euros. Não há como perder isto, gente.
Chain & The Gang - "Not Good Enough" phone this song at 8 a.m. and after two rings it picks up but doesn't say hi. "Hi," I say, into the silence. This song and I have been best friends since the seventh grade and it knows why I'm calling. It knows everything. Have you ever had a best friend? This song and I do everything together, we finish each other's sentences, we have nicknames for people we don't like, I can call it whenever. Sometimes things get so close it's like sharing [...]

Vous. betty lavette -let me down easy- the standells -dirty water- chain & the gang -bill for the use of a body- wanda jackson -rip it up-

The latest iteration of the evolving persona of Ian Svenonius, the one time Sassy Magazine 's "Sassiest Boy in America," is Chain, of Chain & The Gang. Chain is currently spreading the word regarding the detrimental effects of liberty on civilization through a serious unserious, reverently irreverent version of the blues, complete with his charismatic spoken-sung lyrics and occasional Prince-like outbursts. Svenonius, of course, is the always energetic, enigmatic and entertaining former singer of the late great Nation of Ulysses, as well as The Cupid Car Club, The Make Up and Weird War. (He is also the [...]
If I can say anything about February 2011, it is truly the month in which I can say I lost my mind! But, of course, it's been ultra fun. Spent a part of it in LA and the rest in Brighton and as far as I'm concerned, February is just the month that slides into [...]
