Just looking at the name Chairs Missing, Wire is the obvious reference point. But, this new San Diego psych-pop outfit isn't that easy to tap, and their single "To The Hills" is instantaneously affecting and equally memorable. Below we have the track for download, so check it out and get this band on your radar.
Haunting, spacey folk-rock is alive and well in San Diego.
This will be the first post I have written this month that isn't directly related to the North by Northeast music festival, but it isn't completely unrelated to our recent trip to Canada's most prestigious music festival. I guess that is the mark of a great festival: it not only introduces you to some quality new bands, it altogether...

When I saw Chairs Missing was the name of a band, I immediately thought of the classic Wire album of the same name. Not so... Chairs Missing is a side project for Paul Remund of Tape Deck Mountain . MP3: Wire- Red Barked Tree -

I've been thinking about this a lot, and in the vein of all year-end best-of/worst-of, most-least-likely-to's, and honorable mentions I wanted to put together a geographical best-of list of my own. One that takes place in my current residence: San Diego, California. Since being here, I've discovered a wellspring of creativity, mostly in both form and content of young people quietly and steadily doing what they love, in a community that takes place, often, in the living room and surrounding areas of the Habitat House- or other unlikely grounds for performance, be it venues, galleries or attics. It is here [...]

For those who missed SxSW, this month's Rumble brings Austin to San Diego. Follow us on Facebook and Twitter for contests, MP3s, and links that don't make it onto the blog.

As it turns out, spending 8 hours in airports/airplanes en route to a suburb of an almost-city does wonders for sparking the urge to blog. So here, in no particular order, are some of the musical "revelations" I experienced while traveling. 154 > Chairs Missing If you've had any extended contact with me over the past 3 weeks, the fact that I'm writing about Wire is probably not the least bit surprising to you (apologies to the [...]
Wire - Outdoor Miner An oldie, but one I have to admit not being familiar with before seeing a YouTube video of two guys giving it a ukulele rendition on Sammy's Tunes (posted below). It's a short, simple and classic pop song - the best kind, of course, and just what you need on Monday. The original video: [...]
