We know you lost sleep over the course of last month, waiting patiently, racking your brain to see what we could possibly list as our favorite albums of 2011. We lost sleep too, compulsively checking our lists twice and perhaps after a fist fight or two, we settled on 25 firm choices. After all, who listens to as much music as us? Who actually has time to listen to put together a valid top 25 list with no filler? We're fairly certain that most other sites don't include at least a handful of the albums listed on none other [...]
HAPPY NEW YEAR! The 3rd go around for my massive year-end compilation. 53 songs! You're getting 3 more songs then last year! Bringing compilation awesomeness to a Whole. New. Level! Revel in it's greatness! AGDFA's 2011 Year-End Comp Mix. 01. The Black Keys - "Lonely Boy" 02. Dinosaur Pile-Up - "Mona Lisa" 03. Foo Fighters - "White Limo" 04. We Were Promised Jetpacks - [...]

You've made it - our top 25 songs of 2011 are right here. We were blown away by the talent here and perhaps some of the way these songs worked out for the respective artists here could either be sheer luck to have a song turn out so favorably or perhaps it came down to just raw talent. Whatever it is, these songs rocked our day, week, month or heck... even our year. Enjoy the best of the best with our top 25 songs of 2011! 25. The Remainers - House [...]
It was an OK year. Nothing more, nothing less. Timber Timbre and their album "Creep On Creepin' On" was without a doubt, the album I've listened to and seen performed live the most all year. Taylor Kirk's dark, swampy sound speaks to me. As for the rest of my top 5, these albums will be listened by yours truly for years [...]

As our list continues, we not only were able to find some of the best songs this year, but were floored with some new discoveries as well as some returning ones. Enjoy our Top 100 Songs of 2011 as our list continues. 75. Germany Germany - Intro IV (Order/Disorder) Crisp loops and melodies were easy to swallow here. Germany Germany's 2011 album, Adventures , was certainly that. This whole album showed much promise and replayability throughout 2011. 74. The Pear Traps - Home As simple [...]

As we get ready to bid adieu to another year of fantastic music, your faithful editor has made a list and checked it twice to choose what she considers the best of the year. Agree? Disagree? As always on here on TGTF, comments are welcome. 1. Noah and the Whale – 'Last Night on Earth' (Mercury) – With all the bad news about the economy in our faces each day and scandals rocking public institutions and public figures, we could really use something that can lift our cynical spirits. [...]
1. Coldplay 'Mylo Xyloto' - The happiest these have ever sounded results in yet another remarkable album, inhabited with fervency, bald-faced pop and one typically heartening concept. 2. Beirut 'The Rip Tide' - Stupendous effort from Zach Condon and his reliable trumpet. Rest of world music, over to you. 3. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds 'Noel Gallagher's High [...]

People often remark about The Recommender's editorial content. Some love the lengthier pieces, as it gives them more information and they hit the play buttons before reading the article so it acts as a soundtrack to the words. Others moan about how it's too wordy and lengthy, stating that we write too much - although we suggest that in reality it's probably them that perhaps doesn't read enough. Either way, we're sticking to our prose. We feel it gives the reader a richer experience and more information than simply listing mp3s. We believe it allows us to share an opinion [...]

Chapel Club, by Kenny McMurtrie By Kenny McMurtrie October 11, 2011 Quite a night for seconds this – only Chapel Club 's second time in the city, the second time they've played their new songs and their time on stage was split into two, albeit loosely. This last fact though was, along with some beer-on-electrics related volume issues, a minor sore point with some in the audience. Punters expect to recognise what they've paid to hear, at least within the first couple of numbers after a band [...]

Chapel Club's Lead Mix We got Alex from Chapel Club into play some records for Lead Soup on Saturday, I've known the guy long enough to trust his keen ear, ace tunes then and ace tunes on this mix he made for us. It's a new wave-folk-electronic-indie-cro oner affair. Chapel Club's Lead Mix [...]

Writing chops have taken hold of the Chapel Club lads as heard in this latest demo released of their new track "Waterlight Park". Previewed from the bands forthcoming sophomore LP, "Waterlight" stays true to the band's taste in melodic dissonance while broadening out the music palette with a warmer, more soulful, less icy sea of dreamy instrumentation. Chapel Club - Waterlight Park (Demo) Chapel Club: ( Facebook ) Rating 8.0

I would say this, but October's line-up of acts coming to the Ifthereishellbelow.com curated live music and club night LEAD SOUP is one of the finest in the whole of London. It's all happening at the new Mother Live venue in Old Street where entrance is free, pints are £3, mixers and wine not much more and you can dance into the night with the Lead Soup DJs. Here's a wee run down of the acts playing over the next month and some choice pickings from their musical fruit basket. [...]

Chapel Club Having released their debut album Palace earlier this year, Chapel Club are closing out the year with a series of special UK shows. At each gig the band will play twice each night - once with a main set featuring songs from Palace and 20102s Wintering EP, plus an earlier, special set made up of entirely new material. Having started debuting new material in their festival sets over the summer, the band are keen to continue to develop their new ideas in a live setting. You [...]

Chapel Club have announced a tour of the UK for next month. These gigs will be extra special, as the band will be playing not one but TWO sets each night. On their official Web site , the band describes them as follows: "The main set will feature songs from 'Palace' and the 'Wintering' EP, and earlier in the evening we'll also play a special set made-up entirely of brand new songs." Sounds like a tour not to be missed. For a taste of the new material, 'watch' a snippet from 'New Colours' [...]

We'll tell you once, but this song is going to be in our top songs of the year. Chapel Club, who claim home in the UK , might be most highly lauded for their single "Surfacing", but as far as we're concerned "Blind" rips the roots out of any set premonitions we had about this year's top songs. Chapel Club - Blind For more information on Songs of the Week and what they're all about, go here .

Ah, the end of another week, the start of another weekend. And, of course, time for another round of Gigantic . I'm going to fire up the three tracks that have been orbiting round my head the most this week. I figure that by posting them here, and sharing them, that they might leave my head and get lodged in the brain of someone else. First up is Chapel Club 'All The Eastern Girls'. I think I first heard this track on the reliably awesome 6 Music. I had to use Shazam to figure [...]

Just a few years ago there was a spate of British rock bands that seemed to be the direct descendants of that rumbling brand of 70s/80s alternative rock music that was spearheaded by Echo & The Bunnymen , The Jesus & Mary Chain and Joy Division . This new batch of re-visits had a variety of successes, with bands such as Chapel Club and The Horrors signing to Loog Records , (an imprint of the major Universal label), but then there was a plethora of others who's success hasn't been [...]

Memory Tapes (AKA Dayve Hawk) has been growing quickly on us since we featured " Wait In The Dark " in our Weekend Burn about a month ago (see our Weekend Burn archive here ). Since this time, we've realized how remixable Hawk's music was and to no surprise, did we find not only Memory Tapes remixed by multiple well-known DJs, but that our boy Dayve did quite a few himself. In the list below, you'll notice yet another Phoenix remix. If you're interested in more of these, we just put our [...]
