CHAPPO + Nevada Color + Chupacabra 6119 Penn / 05.06 / 9:00 / $10 Words by Brendan Last time of Montreal came to town, I had to go. They're one of my favorite all-time bands, so I wasn't going to miss that. I met some friends there early on to catch the first opener, when the place still wasn't packed. Not having any expectations, I was kinda blown away by the energy of CHAPPO . [...]

Brooklyn-based CHAPPO gets trippy with a few choice covers, including Jefferson Airplane's "Somebody To Love"

A big chunk of the world became familiar with Chappo in 2010 when the Brooklyn band licensed their song "Come" (featured in their debut EP) to Apple for an iPod Touch commercial . In the following years the group released another EP and a full length in 2012, while Chappo's singer Zac, together with NYC based Jupiter One singer K, also started working on material for psychedelic side project Fancy Colors . K in the meantime had also started a new solo project called Kishi Bashi , who - together with Chappo - toured with [...]

Photo Credit: Drew Reynolds “[CHAPPO’s] music is fearless, innovative and downright fun, infusing classic indie pop with complete chaos, achieving their goal of making the Chappo experience one meant to be out of this world.” – The Deli Chappo (Majordomo Records/Shout! Factory) return to Cincinnati on Sunday. The psychedelic pop quartet, known to play in sequins and fire off confetti guns, play 20th Century Theatre with Monogold (Brooklyn, NY) and locals We Are Snapdragon . The first time I saw Chappo [...]

Brooklyn electro-rock band Chappo has come a long way since I saw them play Dynasty Electric's loft party a number of years ago. The band released their debut LP, Moonwater , earlier this year via Majordomo Records (an imprint of Shout! Factory), which Consequence of Sound described as " explor[ing] the simple splendor of youth through their wide-eyed storytelling and space-y instrumentation, sounding like MGMT coming down off a great acid trip. " The band just released a new video for "5-0" (below) and are screening the video on October 21st at a rooftop [...]

Earlier this year, Brooklyn foursome CHAPPO released their debut album Moonwater and have steadily seen their star climbing thanks to a steady slew of tour dates with none other than of Montreal , the infectious "Come Home" being used by Apple in a 2010 commercial and most recently getting primetime presence in an ad during a certain major internationally watched multi-sporting event. After nice words about their excellent first two EPs, Plastique Universe I and II , CHAPPO [...]

With the Olympics going on, I've been watching way more live TV than normal, which has given me plenty of opportunity to see which of the latest hip, indie tracks are being harvested for mass consumption via car, beer and cell phone commercials. So that brings us to another edition of my long-running Commercial Watch series, where I watch the ads so you can keep skipping them with your fancy DVR-machines. There's twenty commercials embedded below with MP3s / streams of the songs included. Make sure to click the continue reading link to see them all! [...]

Let’s all take a step down off our corporation-hating high horses and admit something: Those damn Apple commercials have some pretty dope music (well, maybe with one exception ). One of the newest recipients of the coveted “Apple bump” is Brooklyn’s CHAPPO , whose song “Come Home” appeared in a recent iPod Touch commercial. On the band’s debut full-length, Moonwater , CHAPPO explore the simple splendor of youth through their wide-eyed storytelling and space-y instrumentation, sounding like MGMT coming down off a great acid trip. The folks in Apple’s music licensing department definitely knew what [...]
Having been to many other festivals, and having camped, my partner at the fest and I clashed on our descision as to where to stay, and she won. I've camped many times, most recently as Sasquatch and loved it. However the lack of running water and porta-potty's were a drawback, not to mention the fact that you had to put up with noise if trying to sleep. Bonnaroo's camping situation seemed a lot more organized, with quaintly named camping divisions including Ferris Bueller, Apollo Creed, Bobby Brown, a whole area with Star Wars themed names etc. Each of these became [...]
Choices are typically seen as a good thing. Regardless, I'm usually the person that yells, "Just effing decide." "Point and choose." Progressively getting frustrated when people take more than five seconds to favour one thing over an other (especially on a short menu). Today, I'm proven to be hypocritical in how I advise people weigh their options as I've been pondering for weeks. Bonnaroo go-ers are faced with many dilemmas today. None more disappointing for me than having to make a decision between Black Star and Major Lazer . Having never seen Mos Def and [...]
