This weekend is an immense weekend for Irish music in terms of the future. As we all know we can only have good independent music festivals if they have the ability to make money. There's a free gig on the Sunday featuring Funeral Suits and Neosupervital amongst many others that I'm looking forward to. I also got tickets to Heritage Centre and Ian Whitty for [...]

Maybe when I do another best 100 albums list, or else a Best 200 Irish albums list for my 2000th post, there will be a Chapters record in there. They're one of Dublin's finest new bands and are due to play Whelan's (a major venue for anyone who's in an Irish band) next Thursday, the 18th of June. Their album Perfect Stranger was released last week, and like this gig, is highly recommended! Doors: 7.30PM Killer Chloe: 8.15PM The Chapters: 9.15PM Tickets are €13.50, and a small few remain. It's bound to be fantastic. [...]
When I first started listening to the Swedish quartet that is Anekdoten, my first thought, I am really going to hate this. And I have to say, I wasn't completely wrong. I really did hate their music, initially. Upon playing the first track of the band's new album, Chapters, I was not impressed. [...]

This afternoon will see the strange pairing of Neil Gaimen & Amanda Palmer (of the Dresden Dolls) appearing in Chapters book shop. Gaiman will be signing, and Palmer will be performing a ukulele set (!) in the Parnell Street store at 5 O'Clock. Should be interesting... Here's Astronaut from Palmer's amazing 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer? ' album: Big up to the Happiness Machine for the tip.
I'm not the biggest fan of Chapters' [Myspace] style of low-note rock; the style went out in 2001 when Nickelback and Three Days Grace overdid it and essentially killed rock radio. However, public...
The 2008 version of An Under Cover Weekend at the Bluebird is double the fun of last year's inaugural edition: The event is now spread out over four nights (in other words, two weekends). And although the premise of the extravaganza is still the same — your favorite local musicians paying tribute to bands of yesteryear by doing all-covers sets — each night will focus on the music of a specific decade. Here's a comparison of the swinging '60s participants; judge for yourself how well they'll do. The show starts at 8 p.m. Friday, September 5, and Saturday, [...]

In this week's paper, Christian Schaeffer reviews Wife , the debut EP from moody synth-post-punks Chapters . He had this to say: The presence of misogyny in rock & roll isn't exactly headline news. From the crass objectification of 2 Live Crew to the dark sadism of the Afghan Whigs, women have been demonized as much as they have been celebrated in rock lyrics. Even still, the brash women-hating on Chapters' debut EP, Wife , is off-putting. In the course of these five tracks, the band manages to refer to [...]

The response to last week's Big Bloc 1 posting of selected mp3s from SXSW 2006 was vast, although largely invisible but to the practiced eye. Here's a list I put together of three dozen songs I like from SXSW 2005 . Again, if you find yourself wanting more, click on the two SXSW's above. As I did for Big Bloc 1, I am retaining original spelling, deleting "mp3" so as to make it easier to browse the list, and [...]
