It's been 20 years since The Charlatans (go ahead and append "U.K." onto their name if you must) first exploded into our ears with "The Only One I Know," and while their moody, melodic mix of post-punk, psychedelia, and Britpop has certainly matured over the years, the band has also maintained both its vision and its momentum. Unlike many of their contemporaries who are still stalking the boards, The Charlatans never had an attention-getting reunion, due to the simple fact that they never broke up in the first place. They've been plugging along for the last two decades, [...]
Phil Harder I was going to skip posting today entirely but a few choice bits came up on the radar that merited a quick mention - most notably, the announcement of Bettie Serveert's Autumn North American tour that had been promised since their latest album - the surprisingly rowdy Pharmacy Of Love - was released back in march. Amongst those dates is a September 28 appearance in Toronto at the Drake Underground, the Dutch rockers' first visit since a barn-burner of a set at [...]
Oh Manchester...so much to answer for. So many great bands creating such gorgeous and infinitely vital music that birthed a generation of dancing misfits, navel-gazing misanthropes and 24 hour party people. While the new breed of bands like Delphic, Everything Everything, Hurts, The Courteeners stake their own claim, it's always nice to hear something new from the old guard. In this case, we have the return of the Charlatans. It's hard to believe that it's been twenty years since their debut record, 1990's Some Friendly, came out. Who knew that as time passed and the dust settled this [...]
Steve Gullick I'm sitting here trying to figure out why I never listened to Oxford's Foals . It's not that I hadn't heard of them - I made note of both tours they undertook a couple years ago in support of their debut Antidotes , but don't think I gave them any sort of listen beyond the sample MP3 and maybe a MySpace drive-by. Maybe it was the saxophones that turned me off. But I'm revisiting them - both Antidotes and this year's follow-up [...]
The Charlatans have lined up dates for a forthcoming North American tour. The band are set to embark on the jaunt, in support of their forthcoming album ' Who We Touch ', on September 7 in Atlanta. Among the dates announced are shows in New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. ' Who We Touch ' is set for release on September 14 via The End Records. Check out all tour dates below. There are in fact probably approximately 125+ good reasons (just cast your eye on the tags below) to be excited about Primavera Sound 2010, and if you've already bought a ticket (or are still planning to) you'll probably have your own personal handful. I'll leave you with 14 (below), one for every day until Primavera Sound 2010 kicks off in exactly two weeks time. I don't know about you, but excited doesn't even begin to describe it for me. The lineup truly looks is as if the organisers carefully studied and then booked my last.fm [...]

The Charlatans: 'Love Is Ending'
Click here to view the embedded video. The Charlatans return on August 2nd with new single 'Love Is Ending', followed by their eleventh studio album Who We Touch on September 6th. The accompanying video to the single was directed by Jesus & Mary Chain's Douglas Hart and features the band performing the song behind a ballerina. Looks like Tim Burgess has opted for the 1990 look: bowl cut and cape. Good work Tim. The band will tour the UK in support of Who We Touch throughout October. Dates are: [...]
The Charlatans – New single/video
The Charlatans return with their 11th studio album in September and it's reportedly a return to their original sound for the band. Who We Touch was produced by Youth (Paul McCartney, Primal Scream and The Verve) and was recorded at Britannia Row in London. Album opener 'Love is Ending' is the lead single and the video was directed by The Jesus & Mary Chain's Douglas Hart, who wanted something very simple yet visually striking to compliment the energy of the track. The ballet dancer/choreographer Aisling Cook was selected due to her influences, style and understanding [...]
stop pretending…
Love is ending... Here it is, friends. The promotional film for the new single by the Charlatans. I must say I do like the song a lot. It appears after their brief excursion through their New Order collection on You Cross My Path . The band decided to go back to the future by taking the best bits of their illustrious legacy of their own and giving the younger bands a primer on how the 1990s really got started. Tim Burgess sounds in fine form here and the band sounds re-energized which can only mean good things for the [...]

Kula Shaker – Pilgrims Progress (2010)
As Kula Shaker's first album in three years, Pilgrims Progress shows the band at their very best since releasing their 1996 debut. On paper, the template for album number four is much the same as their previous three efforts. But where Pilgrims Progress really shines is in its rare ability to present the sounds of another era in a setting that feels mature, fresh, current and progressive.
