Here is 2007's second mix. This one focuses on rhythm, blues, and soul with some hints of gospel thrown in. (2008's mixes will be posted on the 21st and the 23rd of the month.) You'll note that this CD and ...Country Little Christmas both started with variations on "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus." I actually had another one for the country CD, a Buck Owens tune called "Santa Looked A Lot Like Daddy" but it didn't make the cut. This CD contains two of my favorite Christmas records of all time, "White Christmas" [...]

I owe Charles Brown an apology. By all rights, and in the tradition of Multiple Mondays, his picture, or one of his album covers, should be over there to the right. (Keep reading to learn why I photoshopped a Santa hat on Chuck instead.) You see, waaaaay back in 1947, rhythm and blues singer Charles Brown met a songwriter named Lou Baxter, who wanted him to record a song called "Merry Christmas Blues." Brown reworked the song and took it into the studio, where his usual collaborators, Johnny Moore's Three Blazers, provided the backing track. (Apparently [...]

Charles Brown (September 13, 1922 – January 21, 1999), born in Texas City, Texas was an American blues singer and pianist whose soft-toned, slow-paced blues-club style influenced the development of blues performance during the 1940s and 1950s. He had several hit recordings, including "Drifting Blues" and "Merry Christmas Baby". Charles Brown: Driftin Blues Charles Brown: All My Life

Sam Cooke is my favorite singer and has been since I was 13-14 years old. While most of my friends were obsessing over U2 and Depeche Mode concert tickets, I was obsessing over Sam Cooke records. While time has mostly vindicated me, even I have to laugh that while I liked The Joshua Tree well enough, given my druthers I would've rather listened to Sam sing, "They Call The Wind Maria." Yeah, I was a blast at keggers. The one song that stood up and harpooned me in [...]

" Is the tree down yet? Are the decorations packed away? ... " - Henry Fonda Those are the first words spoken on Track 1 and it sets the tone for this day after Christmas. Most people are so finished with Christmas by December 26 that they begin looking forward to the next holiday (and despite some store displays already set, it's NOT Valentine's Day). Compiled for your listening pleasure today are some after-Christmas radio spots that remind you that Christmas might be over but not forgotten, several celebrity New [...]

i usually try to stay away from some of the more depressing holiday music out there (which is actually harder than it seems), but if a song is good i'll probably listen to it regardless of the tone it sets...with that being said, i've included a few melancholy numbers in this sixth christmas mix from the likes of randy newman, rilo kiley & sufjan stevens, among others...but i also tried to intermingle those with a little more festive material from bands like the db's, nrbq, & booker t. & the m.g.'s...hope you like it...also, check out "kung fu christmas" from [...]

There will be plenty of dancing around the Christmas tree and other embarrassing moments at the company Christmas party this year. That may be why many companies no longer hold the annual drunkfest with the bosses. I prefer to do my dancing in the aisle on the Bus with good friends, music, and drink. Ain't no bosses on the Bus, feel free to cut loose. The Trail Band - Dancing 'Round the Christmas Tree.mp3 from The Trail Band's Making Spirits Bright more info: trailband.com [...]
It's been a fantastic season with 77 Santas and it's time to close out the season with the list of my favorite songs this year. Last year, I did fifteen songs—I'm upping it by twelve this time around. I've written about many of these already. And I could write a blurb for every song but suffice it to say that they are all personal to me and many are rooted in my childhood memories. It's been a

I have this love-hate relationship with holiday music. I used to love to hate it when I worked retail and had to listen to the same shitty songs over and over and over while waiting on highly obnoxious customers. Now, after being out of retail for almost four years, I hate to love holiday music. Oh well...what are you gonna do? I should say I don't love ALL holiday music. Most of it is pretty crappy. I tend to gravitate towards classics, stuff that reminds me of my childhood, and some modern interpretations of those classics. [...]
