"What I Like" and its accompanying video made for a solid single package. They felt like a pop artist trying out an interesting aesthetic, putting it on and strutting around a bit. Bringing Danny Brown on board for the remix gives the song the bit edge it had previously been missing, and may have stopped you from completely buying into its original iteration.
