Jack White has revealed his latest strange bedfellow and it's none other than 71-year-old singing legend, Mr. Tom Jones . According to this month's MOJO Magazine , Jones is the latest participant in Third Man Records' infamous Blue Series , which has previously offered releases from Stephen Colbert, John C. Reily, and Insane Clown Possee. For his part, Jones recorded a rendition of "Jezebel" from his 2002 album Mr. Jones , along with a cover of Howlin' Wolf's "Evil" . As White notes, "He impressed the shit out of everybody." [...]

Peyton on Patton is Reverend Peyton from Rev. Peyton's Big Damn Band's take on the music of Charlie Patton. It's mostly just him and either his resonator guitar or banjo. The session was recorded in mono with one microphone. And it has that earthy sound you can only get from such a setup. This came out in the summer but didn't get a lot of play (probably because it's different from what people came to expect from the full band). Green River Blues

@ Facebook // OnLine // Label // AMAZN mp3 - vinyl // iTunes I've been listening to the new Rev. Peyton album Peyton On Patton. Mostly a solo affair, Peyton pays true tribute to his hero, and the true King of Delta blues, Peyton's hero, Charlie Patton. I could go on but, honestly, the [...]

The most exciting news of this morning just laid on my Facebook wall by Josh from Tompkins Square - A new documentary on the life, music and myth of John Fahey is being produced these days. For those who have no idea who I'm talking about (can that be? you're reading my blog, he's mentioned every second post), John Fahey was an American guitarist, owner of a small label called Takoma Records , and an [...]

How beautiful the sun is on warm evenings! How deep space is! How powerful is the heart! Bending over you, queen of adored ones, I thought I breathed the perfume of your blood. How beautiful the sun is on warm evenings! Night deepened like a wall, and my eyes in the darkness sensed your eyes, and I drank your breath, O sweetness! O poison! And your feet slumbered in my brotherly hands. Night deepened like a wall. I know the art of evoking happy moments, and live again my past curled up in your lap. For [...]

Hey friends, this is my first official post as a 26-year-old. Let me tell you, it feels not bad. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to say it feels "pretty alright". Thank you Nicci for posting yesterday so that I could enjoy my birthday. You're a real pal. Scarily, the first time I read through that post I thought, "Wait a minute - didn't I just write this yesterday?" I guess it just goes to show that anybody can imitate my style of writing, and those of you who leave comments praising me are clearly unaware of my utterly pedestrian abilities. [...]

I can. I was born in the country and raised up in town. I'm natural born able to shake'em on down ." - Mark Porkchop Holder Mark Porkshop Holder has just released his second album and it's a wicked [...]
