Frosted over in the South, an inch of snow on the ground, freeze warnings on the way - checked beforehand and Exit / In said this : the rock show is still going on, no doubt, no problem, but need pizza in this weather. Suggest/pull back/return to it & decide to spend the money. Slushy at the fast food pizza place, like everything is slush, nothing solid, nothing liquid. I think "Water is amazing." We eat pizza. Fences / Deckfight [...]

The disclaimer: There's no way I could've heard everything, and I probably haven't heard some of the most popular indie stuff out there. Anyway, here are my favorites, the stuff I returned to repeatedly in 2010. I had more listed last year than this year, though I felt like I heard a bunch of stuff this year. Maybe I'm more picky. The following are what immediately came to mind, so first thought best thought. Want more? Favorite Albums of 2009 and Favorite Albums of [...]
After a turbulent couple of months for Against Me! , it appears they're back in true form with two solid months of touring to ring in the new year. Before opening up for The Dropkick Murphys, the band ( + Jay Weinberg ) will headline a winter leg of the tour. And to raise some more eyebrows, along for the ride is Seattle folk rockers Fences . After a strong showing at CMJ this year, Chris Mansfield, the singer/songwriter behind Fences, has been supporting their recently released self-titled debut . Mansfield's bare folk tunes are dark, and [...]
I sorta forgot to post this interview with Ben from Cheap Girls prior to Fest a few weeks ago. Well, here it is for your enjoyment, even if it is a little late. Is there a difference between a cheap girl and an easy girl? Probably. Our name isn't supposed to come off as a sexist thing. Should've probably thought that through a bit more… but it was an inside joke then, and still is. You get the Lemonheads, Smoking Popes, etc… comparisons all the [...]
Radfest was this past weekend. I saw some bands. Not every band I saw is mentioned below, and unfortunately I had to leave early Saturday before most of the headliners. Instead of trying to describe every show, h ere's the Totally RT-able day-and-a-half of Radfest recap. Every entry in 140 characters or less. Oh yeah, follow me on Twitter: @deckfight [...]
Win a Paper + Plastick skatedeck and copies of the new records from The Riot Before and Cheap Girls.

So this is it. My favorite full-length albums of the year. So many other blogs post their top songs of the year, but I guess I'm a bit more old-school (and probably older) than most of them. I prefer the album format rather then just ranking singles against one another. I posted Part I of this list yesterday, but there are so many good albums from 2009 that I had to leave off the list completely (unless I was going to make it an even 100). Maybe next year, right? Also, fuck all the [...]

Hot on the heels of last year's awesome Find Me A Drink Home , the Lansing, Michigan trio Cheap Girls is back with another great full-length full of straightforward punkish power-pop, My Roaring 20's . There really aren't any huge changes to be found when comparing My Roaring 20's to their debut, but (again) it seems as if Cheap Girls know exactly what it is they do well and just stick with it. The production is (however) a bit better but still retains enough of the lo-fi charm that no one will accuse [...]
Remember back in the early 2000s, when almost every "cool new band" had a name starting with "The" and ending with a plural? The Strokes, The Hives, The Ataris, The Gorillaz, The White Stripes, The Vines, The Unicorns? Well, my friends, it looks like the time has come for another wave of bands with similar [...]

mp3: monument - busy being bees come see all these bands tomorrow night at what looks like a pretty sweet new venue, the dc mini gallery . monument includes anton kropp, also of for the agenda ... a project that is making some of the best music released on cassette today, though i guess that recent limited edition bitte orca release may be stepping on his toes a bit. so if you're a fan of anton's work with for the agenda or the summer we went west, you should [...]

With the possible exception of my good friends at Fanatic Promotion , Will from Beartrap has probably sent more great artist music our way than anyone. We've featured several of the bands he works with, including Paper The Operator, Look Mexico, Boris Smile, and Empire! Empire! We've got some more music by four more bands, and it was extremely difficult to choose just one track from each to share. For all the whining the RIAA and others do about blogs sharing [...]

Here's the second half of my list so if you missed the first part, it's right here . What you've got here are my favorite albums of 2008. Honestly, I was actually surprised how the list ended up but I don't care how much street cred I lose for these picks, they are the records that I just couldn't stop playing. 25. Okkervil River - The Stand Ins ( Jagjaguwar ) I'm pretty much convinced that any record that Will Sheff puts out (until [...]

Added: Tue, 07 Oct 2008 00:00:00 -0700 Description: 3 great dudes from Lansing, Michigan. You can get their record for free on Quote Unquote records (donate!) or get it on CD or Vinyl from Bermuda Hawk or Los Diapers respectively. For fans of Smoking Popes and Dinosaur Jr. They also seem to love plaid and leaving without saying goodbye.

Four Songs by Stay Sharp could have been a really, really, good hardcore record. Instead, it's just pretty ok . I don't know what it is, because on the surface, they have everything it takes to be a great band. They're loud, fast and from Philly, where almost all my favorite bands are from. Most of these songs could have been a long lost Kid Dynamite recording but there's just something about it that doesn't click. Even after listening to it a few times, Four Songs just didn't move me at all. I'm [...]
