Philadelphia quartet fans flames of success on new release. This Philadelphia quartet arrives with an album that is pleasantly crafted, well written, and memorable. With a dash of British Invasion here, nods to contemporaries such as Real Estate and Girls there, and a general waft of high pop sensibilities, Cheers Elephant impresses most when its three part harmonies are shining and shimmering and when its sense of humor comes to the fore. Derek Krzywicki tackles most of the songwriting--and quite well, especially on "Leaves",...

Ok, post #2 in the musical 4some is Cheers Elephant, you know what, I'm pulling a lazy blogger and hitting you with their bio because... I like it: "Dubbed, "Chew it up, Spit it out, Rock and Roll", Cheers' is a raw, rootsy, psychedelic pop rock quartet from Philadelphia, PA. Digging deep into three part harmonies and arranging songs that'll make your dad's toe tap, your mom's hip shake, and your sister's heart throb. With a live show channeling David Bryne, animal of the muppets, and far-out impulses equivalent to evangelicals speaking in tounge. Cheers is channeling something [...]

MP3: Cheers Elephant - Leaves It's a good thing Cheers Elephant are wearing shades in that photo, because this is one sunny track. It's got a little bit of Sleeper Agent in there, but it also reminds me of early Peter, Bjorn and John (probably the drums). This is one of the best pop tracks [...]

Below is a floaty new space adventure music video for the track "Balloon in the City" from Cheers Elephant . It takes advantage of YouTube's 3D setting. You didn't know that YouTube had a 3D setting - did ya? Yeah, neither did we. So throw on those cardboard glasses or the fancier plastic ones from your junk drawer that you stole from the movie theater. (BTW: Is it just us? This 3D function doesn't seem to provide the pop that we are used to.) The video was directed, edited and effected by Ryan Suits.

Philadelphia quartet, Cheers Elephants, have been around since at least 2008. This particular song comes off their latest album, Like Wind Blows Fire , which was released in 2011. But, just because we missed them the first couple of times around doesn't mean you should. Maybe you didn't, in which case, I'm curious why you didn't tell us about them. Anyway, the band ranges anywhere from roots rock to psychedelic to the purest of indie pop. "Leaves", in particular, favors the latter and makes for a perfect tune to enjoy this sunny Minneapolis weather. Take a listen [...]

If you have been reading the blog or listening to the radio show at all, you know I am a huge fan of Philadelphia band Cheers Elephant . On May 8th they released the fantastic album Like Wind Blows Fire . "Leaves" is one of my favorite tracks from 2012 thus far. Reading over their press materials, I giggle as so many reviewers try to define them as "this" or "that", "x" or "y". The ones that say they are a mixture of "this and that" are maybe a little closer. But the truth is, trying [...]
So raise your hand if you knew YouTube had 3D videos...yeah I didn't. But the science of the future is upon us, and such things are pretty nifty. The new video for Cheers Elephant's "Balloon in the City" can be watched in all its three dimensional glory (or two, your choice) as you follow the [...]

Tweet It probably loses a little of its early ecstatic vim along the way but there's no denying that this little nugget had us scurrying for more information about its makers. Nice bunch of lads from Philadelphia by all accounts (mostly their own) and a nice back catalogue with which to impress the girls (if the haircuts don't get them first). Album number three is a mere tyke having only left the presses a couple of months ago. 'Leaves' does its merry [...]

Cheers Elephant Like Wind Blows Fire Self-Released [2012] Fire Note Says: Philly's Cheers Elephant have crafted an excellent indie pop record with their third LP, Like Wind Blows Fire . Album Review: When an album opens up with a strong one-two punch like "Peoples" and "Doin' It, Right", I immediately take notice and think to myself, "where is the inevitable drop-off going to be?" Philadelphia's [...]

On Silversun Pickups 's latest and third album, the LA band shaves the fuzz of their guitars in favor of a more brooding, heavily electronic sound. You can pick up Neck of the Woods and a handful of other new albums out this week, including the second studio album from Kingston, Ontario duo PS I Love You , which according to our Music Director, Don Yates, is another impressive blend of energetic post-punk and anthemic garage-rock with loud, ringing guitars, muscular rhythms, yelping vocals and punchy song hooks." For a taste of their rocking sound, check [...]

CATCHIEST SONG IN SO LONG. Cheers Elephant - "Leaves" [MP3] Cheers Elephant, a quartet from Philadelphia, dropped their latest full length, Like Wind Blows Fire , today. It's been streaming in full on Spinner , but for some reason this band hasn't taken over the pop world. Hopefully this release propels the fellas to stardom, as their layered harmonies, peppy guitars and dynamic percussion leave me giddy. Cheers Elephant - "Falling Out" [MP3] Cheers Elephant - "Doin' it, Right" [MP3] [...]
It's always nice when more than one member of the band can sing. It adds vocal variety of course, but it influences the band in other subtle ways too, like in the songwriting for example: possibilities open up (call and response, reverb and so on). For the Philadelphia band, Cheers Elephant, it means that they can be [...]

I hope you score that Feistodon 7" that's got Feist andMastodon covering each other. Or the Carolina Chocolate Drops/Run DMC split 7" which pairs CCD's new version of Run DMC 'sclassic "You Be Illin" with the original. Or maybe you'll splurge andget the first three groundbreaking Uncle Tupelo albums on 180 gram vinyl. Me,I'd like to get the Dave Hause and Justin Townes Earle 45's and the fun.10". But the important thing is to get out of the house today and goconverse with other humanoids. That's what Record Store Day is about (well, that and getting Feeney to perk [...]

It was nice to see Cheers Elephant bring their lively, animated, energetic selves to today's WXPN Free At Noon concert. Cheers Elephant's pop rock style is far too infectious and sounded so good. Cheers Elephant closed their set with a cover of The Band's "The Weight" as a tribute to Levon Helm . Great show, guys!
