Russia's Cheese People debut with an authentic and energetic dance punk album Cheese - Shopping - Food - cook - Dance-punk

Sometimes I view Russia as one of music's yet to be tapped resources...The only artists that come to mind for me are PROXY & t.A.T.u . CHEESE PEOPLE are a refreshing group of youth from the city of Samara . Their sound is a very eclectic smear between psych-rock, big beat (ala FATBOY SLIM ) & Disco Punk. Kinda like THE GO! TEAM took acid with [...]

My attention was recently drawn to the four-piece based out of Samara, Russia known as Cheese People . Fronted by female vocalist Olya Chubarova the band produces a sound that could get away with the title disco punk. The band's debut album has been released in Russia and Japan already. The self-titled disc is a self produced, zero budget affair but manages to sound more groovy than a lot of mainstream records. Cheese People has already finished recording their second [...]
Cheerily listed as a no-budget, self-produced recording, Cheese People's self-titled début is a collection of thirteen rather spiky songs that bask in disco-punk and experimental funk headfucks. It swims delightfully in the fun absurdity of CSS, DAT Politics or New Young Pony Club, but this is no cheap copy. The Russian four-piece make me want to boogie my buttocks to-and-fro to the sonic

Stop the presses! I'm about to talk disco punk! Whaattt?? Don't I just listen to like, soft and wimpy indie rock stuff? Usually. But sometimes a band comes around with a unique sound that begs for my attention (the sound, not the band - I'm not that cool) and I need to diversify. Cheese People, a female fronted four-piece out of Samara, Russia, are a bundle of fun and so much more. Much like those famed British pop stars The Go! Team , Cheese People (try to take me seriously...) throw in catchy electronic dance hooks with glitchy [...]

From Russia comes Cheese People a disco punk blend from a four-piece band fronted by Olya Chubarova. Think in the vien of CSS and DataRock with a hint of Sneaker Pimps. Cheese People - Catch U

When I think of thriving music scenes, I don't usually think of Russia. Why? No particular reason I can think of. Sure, Russia usually pops into my conciousness whenever Eurovision comes around, as they typically have a cracking technopop entry every year. But otherwise - I suppose like many Westerners - I tend to default to the European Union when searching for music. Somehow my musical circumnavigation of the globe never quite makes it up to the former U.S.S.R. Well, shame on me for my short-sighted musical travels! [...]
