Cherbourg - Man There has been little restraint in the few mentions London's Cherbourg have received so far, with "the next Fleet Foxes" and "the English Fleet Foxes" cropping up already - a tough expectation to bear for a young and unsigned act emrging from an already over-populated pastoral folk scene. But they do grandiose arrangements and melancholic sentiments well and maybe those four-part harmonies will prove the difference. Their new EP Into the Dark is their second release this year, following Last Chapter of Dreaming . Video below. [...]

Cherbourg, one of my currently most listened to bands, has unveiled its official clip for the first single out of their new EP, Into the Dark . Well produced and laden with symbolism of all sorts, it is up for the viewers to get whatever meaning they can out of it. That is, except for the obvious risk in being in a rock band... Listen to Cherbourg on their official site , MySpace , Facebook and last.fm for more tracks and gig updates. Follow them on twitter here . Buy [...]
Well the mammoth video nightmare of the last week is nearly over. This week I will be working in the Meursault tour diary from when they went away to the North of England for a few days in our big green van. They recorded some excellent sessions while they were touring, including three songs in the back of the van from some campsite in, erm, Lancashire somewhere I think, and also a few songs at a bandstand in Newcastle. The tour diary itself might just be mental, and but for some judicial editing could easily become the most offensive musical [...]
"A whole made up of better halves." I am absolutely positive that I haven't loved any band nearly as much as this upon first listen. London's Cherbourg has been my exclusive favorite for the past few months (see March's Cherbourg post for an equally amazing track from the band's previous EP) and, I can only imagine, will continue to be so long into the future. The songs are pretty epic and timeless - all without trying too hard to be [...]

Attention music lovers: Cherbourg's second EP, Into the Dark , is about to be released on June 1st and is available for pre-order here . Listening to it, I can just say that this London, UK indie folk-rock band is destined for greatness. The band's first EP, Last Chapter of Dreaming, (covered here ) was simply amazing and still totally blows me away. The second one continues the first in some ways but also turns into new directions, with a similar end result: a great EP that moves you and evokes feelings and thoughts best [...]

~ frYars - "Visitors" ~ Yes, that's Dave Gahan singing in the chorus. But that's not the only reason why you should give this song a listen. Because the combination of frYars mature voice (he's only 19) and Gahan's recognizable vocals make this electro tune sound like a forgotten hit from the 1980s. ~ Cherbourg - "The Mill" ~ One of those oh-rip-my-heart-out-why-don't- you and please-don't-ever-end kind of tracks, purely because it's so damn beautiful. British indie folk that I can only but highly recommend to anyone and everyone. [...]
Chi: Cherbourg Dove: London, U.K.
"We're all governed by time, she rules with an iron fist." Favorite songs - it an intuitive thing. You just know. Sure, I probably have a bit too many. And sure, I probably romanticize the whole idea of music listening to unhealthy degree. But why not? My life seems to be a nice mess of idealism, anyway. Forget the whole test of time theory - "Can't Hardly Wait" by the Replacements or U2's "Where the Streets Have No Name" will never outwear their welcome, certainly. But I'm more [...]

My first impression, still echoing today after dozens of plays, is of a cross between 18th century drunken British sailors and Fleet Foxes. I admit, I'm over taken by Cherbourg, a London based folk-rock band (formerly known as 'Davie Fiddle and the Lucky Egg' ). Their brilliant debut EP, Last Chapter of Dreaming , coming out this February, is nothing short of a masterpiece. It includes four songs, all rotating around the affairs of the broken heart, unafraid to feel and admit the pain, but like some pub rock of old, you don't get completely depressed. Instead, [...]
Rings a bell ? Cherbourg could remind the ardent lover of music of a song on Zach Condon's latest album. For the movie addicted, the city in Normandy could evoke memories of 'Les Parapluies de Cherbourg', the famous 60s musical comedy by Jacques Demy, for which Michel Legrand composed the score... High time for some revisions, for the benefit of your general knowledge as well as your musical one. It was impossible to get acquainted with Geordie's latest suggestion ... and to not delve into that English alternative folk scene a bit deeper. After letting their music [...]
