Photo by Willy Ward It was roughly one year ago when we first heard Chet Faker's slow motion, soulful remake of Blackstreet's, "No Diggity". He was a relative unknown at the time. No real website to speak of, no history online about work with previous bands or other artists. Chet was a complete mystery, one that would slowly unravel throughout the course of these past twelve months via the release of additional songs, performances at SXSW, around his home continent of Australia, in London and elsewhere. He now takes one more step towards full disclosure through [...]

So this is a little late, I know. The internet situation for me has been a little all over the place lately - moved to a new spot and we're working out which net plan would be best! Anyway, this here is a bit of a mix of my fave tracks of March. It's a [...]
ok, so a bit of a mini album review. Chet Faker has been one of those artists that everyone has taken notice of lately. Having sold out two shows at The Toff in a couple of weeks and a third show selling fast, the dude is doing a fair few things right. The mini album [...]

Chet Faker 's soul-infused electro-blues sound springs from Melbourne roots, but you might not say it sounds typically Australian, or that it would fit on a bill with Toro Y Moi and Washed Out (as it will). Still 'his' (real name unknown) debut EP Thinking In Textures is a cool summer night, wisps of breeze licking at your hands; but can it establish Faker as a genuine contemporary of the scene? If anything, gently surging, softly crooned tracks such as 'Terms and Conditions' and 'Love and Feeling' have more in common with Jamie [...]

This EP has one of the most appropriate titles I've seen in quite a while. Melbournian music-maker Nick Murphy, otherwise (and better) known as Chet Faker, does indeed think in textures, on the evidence of his seven-track debut. It's full of nuances and subtle sounds: laid-back enough to chill to, but not so much that it would be better off as background music. It's those textures again, see: there's actually a hell of a lot going on, even if it doesn't sound like it at first. If you're not won over by the one-two punch of I'm Into You [...]

This past Tuesday Chet Faker released his debut EP, Thinking In Textures , and, uh, it's pretty damn good. The song below, "I'm Into You" is an example of that. I'm not sure how to describe Chet Faker exactly, but it's unique. Think the xx with more soul and blues-inspired smoothness. Chet can also get louder than the xx, but still, that's about the closest I can get to describing his unique, yet awesomely refreshing style of tuneage. Enjoy and of course go buy the EP. Chet Faker might be shrouded in mystery behind a grizzly beard, but Chess Club Records has yet another hit artist on their hands.

This is a really amazing mix of soul/blues with subtle electronic tones and a hook that has Chet Faker destined to get a lot of exposure. Hearing something original seems more and more rare these days with a large amount of artist following suit of some trend that has a parade of listeners tuned in. Taking the back woods is definitely a route that gets less attention but the novelty of the product can sometimes really blow you away like "I'm Into You" did to me.

Photo by William Lukaitis Words by Amy Chapman I'm sure I'm not alone in the thought that this release has been a long time coming. Although Chet Faker only seemed to have surfaced late last year, the teasing snippets of tracks on radio and rare live appearances made me all too excited to discover what I was sure was going to be a solid debut – and my instincts weren't wrong. Thinking In Textures – a little longer than [...]

Australian musician Chet Faker will release his debut EP Thinking In Textures this coming Monday, March 26. In anticipation, he's released two tracks off the record: "I'm Into You," in the blues-rock vein with a touch of hip-hop percussion, is a refreshing venture into more classic rock territory. "Terms and Conditions" is equally excellent. Both demonstrate an excellent sense of songwriting and production. I'm betting this guy will be around for a while. I'm Into You by Chet Faker [...]

Guest Post: Episode 3 - Meet East to West For episode 3 of our Guest Post feature we head down under to find out a little something about our favorite Australian music blog East To West . What is East to West you may wonder? It's Australian. It's electronic. It's overtly emotional. It attempts to find the beauty in the overlooked. It is a temporal meld of messy words and sultry sounds. Simply, it is an intangible exploration of [...]
