Wishing Well - Cheyenne Marie Mize Louisville's Cheyenne Marie Mize (@cheyennemize) has some serious, barbeque-slathered soul. Her newest track, “Wishing Well” combines kitchen-sink percussion with an addicting bluesy melody. The track almost sounds as though one of the singing sirens from “O Brother Where Art Thou?” decided to break off and go solo. Mize’s songwriting is whimsical and soulful, a far-flung cry away from the overly-processed products that generally emerge from The Great Music Industry Pop Studio Machine. If you’re in the mood for some [...]

Historically, September has been a really good month for Kasey and me. Kasey and I got married in September 2009. I began my new job in September 2010. And this year we are putting the final touches on our very first Pairings Box! That may be why the September mixes have always been some of my best. For example, my very first mix I ever shared with our readers was in September 2009 (sorry - it is no longer available), and I think the Musical Pairings' September 2010 Mix (which is still available) has held up [...]

We previously posted the schedule for the Midpoint Music Festival , but we cannot yell loud enough about our excitement for this Fest. This one is difficult to describe, but D's music sense is tingling, and I have a feeling that you'll enjoy it (also I promise not to talk in the third person ever again). Pretty minimalistic instrumentals here, it's clear that the focus is on Cheyenne's amazing vocals. Dynamic backup percussion give the track almost a tribal drum feel. I dig it. Cheyenne's new album, We Don't Need, is out Nov 8th

Exciting news today, as we are proud to be teaming with the good people at the MidPoint Music Festival for an official day party. For veterans of festivals like SXSW, the day party is a fixture, but it is only just beginning here in Cincinnati. For its 10th anniversary, we hope this continues to build out the idea that MidPoint is more than just a late night concert event. Also, we hope to give people options to see bands early in the day that they might miss later, or just to see them again in [...]

One of Louisville's most charming bands is having a concert and releasing their new album entitled Lullabies on August 5th at Uncle Slayton's. Of course, I am talking about is our own town's Maiden Radio . This album will be released on the one and only Daniel Martin Moore's new label Ol' Kentuck . With such talented Kentucky citizens working together, you can expect nothing less that to be amazed by the sounds they create. Details about the show, and the new album are below, as well as a bandcamp [...]

Driving along some lonesome midwest highway this morning, "Not" from Cheyenne Marie Mize came on the iPod player reminding us how a great song can be so simply yet elegantly constructed. The Louisville-based singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has a way with a melody on this standout from her 2010 Before Lately album, one that we described as "Americana folk, flickering torch ballads and spacious chamber pop of somber melancholy." Favorite line: "These words can't change your mind, how can they change your heart?" More DC on Before Lately here. [...]
MOKB Presents will welcome Mountain Man and special guest Cheyenne Marie Mize to Radio Radio, here in Indianapolis, on July 23rd. This lovely trio recently released a new song, entitled " Vision ," as part of Long Haul Productions' Songs + Stories series . This series pairs original music with storytelling to create compelling audio documentaries. The latest piece for NPR tells the story of a massive Coast Guard tower built to guide people around the Great Lakes. The tower no longer works, but [...]
