Thats How Long by The Chi-Lites is off the bands seventh album, Toby , produced by lead singer Eugene Record, and released in 1974 on the Brunswick label. By 1974, Brunswick had started to struggle financially so Toby was less heavily-promoted than the groups previous albums and fared less well commercially. It was the first Chi-Lites album since 1970 to stall outside the R&B top 10 (peaking at #12) and to miss the top 100 on the Pop listings. I had the Ipod on Shuffle this morning and "Stop What Your Doing" came on. I forgot how hard this track hits. I think I'm going to pack this for Sweater Funk on Sunday Seriously how can you not like the Chi-Lites. Three Decades of timeless soul music from the 60s' to the 80's. Having rounded up most of the deaths of musicians in 2009, Ill start to do so monthly as of now. I wont include everybody who has died. So jazz drummer Ed Thigpen, who died on 13 January at 79, doesnt feature because I have no music by him. Others wont feature because their genre is meaningless to me (death metal, for ironic example). And a few will surely slip under my radar, though probably fewer than the numbers ignored by the Grammys. According to the Gary Post-Tribune, Joe Jackson charged the city of Gary, Indiana $5000 to grace them with his presence at Michael Jacksons memorial service in their hometown. Mayor Rudy Clay believes that the event honoring the late singer will bring a profit to the town once all donations are counted. I have to admit, most my experiences with neighbors have been either benign or horrible, not many have been the type to greet new residents with freshly baked cake, it's more along the lines of a reminder which trash cans are mine, to make sure to keep my garbage out of their bins.
