Newly signed to Domino Records, Chief are a 4-piece from Santa Monica who play melodic, atmospheric guitar pop. The piano chords twinkling in the swirling, textured arrangements of their single "Night & Day" add an extra degree of magic to the song. The vocals are rich, layered and recall Band of Horses, as well as their 1960s forebears. "Night and Day" is now out as the first single from Chief's forthcoming album "Modern Rituals". Chief recently signed to Domino and this is their first single release. Whilst not exactly smacking of originality in any sense (how difficult is this today?) the song oozes class and is composed with the loving care and attention that most of this esteemed labels artists seem to put into their work. Man, where did Chief come from? They are a 4 piece band from California that just emerged out of no where. The band members met while attending NYU, and the rest is history. Last night I discovered their song "Night & Day" and I had it on repeat for a solid half an hour straight.
