Here's something Reddit users can file under "Shutupandtakemymoney": Joyful Noise has announced a new annual split 73 series titled "Cause and Effect" that will kick off with new music from ex-Sonic Youth/current Chelsea Light Moving frontman Thurston Moore and Dinosaur Jr./Sebadoah spokesman Lou Barlow . As the label notes, there will be "three separate split 73 records, which each adhere to an overarching theme: an influential, historically-significant solo musician on Side A, and the modern result of that musical influence on Side B." Thus, Moore's been paired with Talk Normal, Barlow shares wax with Dumb Numbers, [...]

In what could have been the best early summer Thursday night in memory (complete with a day off on Friday), Battles made their long awaited return to Detroit at one of my favorite venues in town, Saint Andrew's Hall. The band said they hadn't been to town since 2005 (which is still up for debate) but regardless, it had been a while. I just saw Battles live for the first time last fall at ATP and was very pleased with their unique breed of art rock and their energetic live show, centered (quite literally) around the crazy drumming [...]

For a little over a decade, the city of Toronto has thrown their hat into the music festival ring, presenting North by Northeast, an answer to the over-saturated festival landscape of their fatter friends to the South.

Tuesday nights haven’t been my most active for concert going (although I did see Weird Al Yankovic on a school night when I was 12…may’ve been a Tuesday…) but yesterday I trekked to Danger Danger Gallery to see two bands I knew almost nothing about beforehand, and I’m so glad I did. First up was Prussia, a five-piece from the Motor City that’s coming off a tour with tUnE-YaRdS. These guys played an abbreviated but still funky set of their lesser known material, demonstrating the same range of psychadelic/electro/afro-pop sounds that immediately jump out on their [...]

Having formed in 2007, Prussia are still a relatively young band, but they have got a wealth of experience--and are about to get a little more when they head out on the road in the next few weeks teaming up with the likes of Child Bite and tUnE-YaRdS . There are quite a number of New york City shows including March 16 at Brooklyn Bowl, April 3 at Cake Shop, and April 4 at Death by Audio. The full schedule is below. Prussia tour dates: Dates [...]

Child Bite plays punk-inspired rock that avoids the current penchant for garage clichs, but is this music really fresh, or just a derivative in a different genre than the dominant one? Child Bite does something different; it sounds like other bands, but not every other band. This is a fine distinction. Child Bite's sound is composed of a different set of references than the ones typically in play right now. There's no folk, no beach dreaminess, no symphonic pop, nothing electronic or synthesized. Right off the bat, this difference makes it sound fresher. Child Bite plays layered music that [...]

If you’re into facial hair and music with relentless gusto, you’ll really dig Michigan-based quartet Child Bite, which serves up a sound characterized by an unconventional array of instruments and frenzied vocals with a side of adrenaline. The band will release its third full-length, The Living Breathing Organ Summer (Joyful Noise/Forge Again), tomorow. Check out [...]

BE AFRAID, BE VERY AFRAID HD video by RSL's Steve Legare PSYCH ROCK CHAMPIONS - Detroit wild men about town, Child Bite , are an underground favorite here in Boston. Feast On My Wounded Body Michigan has a proud punk history and throughout the last decade Child Bite has been keeping that odyssey alive. The state is famous for it's shabby, rebellious past, birthing the MC5, The Stooges, Alice Cooper and The White Stripes. Child Bite is as equally progressive and original, sticking a more recent 'fuck you' finger in the face of Detroit's industrial elite, where closures and lookouts continue to put pressure on the states blue-collar economy. It's a city that inspires punk rock and Child Bite confronts [...]
