Over the past few years, EA's FIFA has helped expand our music inbox with groups we should have been checking out. We have been catching up and we hope the people over at EA have ... As I continue an almost-endless effort at trying to get caught up on the music sent in, we've made it up to stuff that arrived in July so there's hope. Thanks to all the artists, labels and hired hit men for their patience. Comments will be brief, but the music is what matters anyway. • • • • Sounding much more musically polished than his 18 years, Portland's Jacob Magers released his debut EP Pendulums, which he wrote and recorded a while a high school senior. His music is influenced by the [...]
Today I bring you, dear readers, a special band coming from Australia, Children Collide . I've heard from their PR rep that this band recently opened for Alexisonfire at a secret show in St. Catherines, and blew the crowd away. Their new album isn't coming out until later this year but you can hear them on MySpace and see this cool video below. You know I'm always mixing it up here on Love Shack, Baby, mostly because I'm constantly listening to a variety of music. Don't get stuck in one particular genre, darlings, spread yourself out! [...]
by eliza czander Splendour in The Grass is only one short week away, and God Damn am I psyched. Kicking off the day this Saturday will be the US band making the LONG trip to Byron Bay, and playing waaay too early. Manchester Orchestra , I thought deserved at least an afternoon slot, but what can you do? We are on the other side of the world where most people haven't heard of em yet. That's cool, cause shortly thereafter the wonder-kids from [...]

Every so often, we get smacked square between the legs with a band guilty of backing up their recordings with solid entertaining live sets. Children Collide are frighteningly on the money, the new saviours of Australian Indie Rock are effortlessly grappling with the complete Rock N Roll package. I haven`t seen this kind of buzz generated since maybe pre- Smells Like Teen Spirit Nirvana over in the States or The Hives `Your Favorite New Band` promotional project this side of the Atlantic. The debut Album `The Long Now` is as I understand, repackaged [...]

Before I say anything I would just like to say a big thank you to Adso - I have not only really appreciated your posts but I have thoroughly enjoyed every single one, as I am sure everyone else has. Lets continue: I have just come out of a very depressing time of my life and I feel that you are the only people I can speak to. It was a time of confusion, sorrow, insecurity and most of all disappointment in myself. I am talking about the quarter life music crisis I found myself in since my [...]
Toronto's Dine Alone Records has scored a nice coup with the signing of a pair of Aussie bands. The indie label will be bringing Children Collide and The Living End back to Canada. You're probably familiar with The Living End. They've had decent radio play here with songs like "Prisoner of Society" and "Roll On".Later this summer the label will release Children Collide's The Long Now as well

[Happy 40th to Flaming Lips drummer Steven Drozd. Now keep the beat while I run through tonight's exhausting list of shows:] Give the Church credit — most bands who are still going concerns at the end of their third decade are just playing greatest-hits sets. The Australian quartet, touring behind a new album, "Untitled #23," that is almost Floydian in its shimmer, hits the Roxy tonight along with Adam Franklin & Bolts of Melody . ... Also visiting from Down Under: Children Collide join [...]

Children Collide are already a pretty big deal in their native Australia, where they are signed to Universal and in 2008 released their well-regarded debut "The Long Now." But as many bands from that hemisphere have found, that'll barely get you a g'day in Los Angeles. With singles like "Social Currency" (check out the video ), the Melbourne-based trio mines a lot of '90s influences to good effect, with a punk-grunge aesthetic that seems all dressed up for stadiums and songs that fans of straight-ahead rock 'n' roll will move to. Live: Children Collide, along with Bloodcat [...]

Austin's The Sword Play the Troubadour Tonight I went out of town last weekend, so the only live music I saw was Greg Diaz in the lobby of my hotel. Anybody make it out to the Sebadoh or Menomena shows? Sorry I missed them. This is the week of SXSW, so a lot of prominent local bands have already left town, but there are plenty of buzz bands in town this week on their way to or from Austin. TV Alert: Dr. Dog [...]

March is on the way and that can mean only one thing for the indie (and not so indie) music community: the industry clusterfuck that is South by Southwest . A billion bands, a million venues, random house parties, free booze, and zero sleep in an oasis in Texas. I've wanted to go so badly in past years...but I seem to be over that urge for some reason. Anyway, just like last year , a stack of Australian and New Zealand artists will be making their way to Austin to try and impress anyone who will listen. [...]

These guys are another band that I had been hearing a lot about, but had never gotten around to listening to. Well thankfully this festival has finally given me a reason to and I regret not doing so earlier. Children Collide 's music is an edgy, obscure form of rock music that seems perfectly suited to the live arena. Unfortunately however, my biographical knowledge is a bit thin. You see the internet has been stubbornly ambiguous in my quest to find out more. Some photos show them with a third, female member and others as just a duo. In [...]
