Click image to download full album Sounds like: Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, !!!, Spoon "Neutral Milk Hotel - You've Passed" What's so good? Usually when bands disband and fade into oblivion, it's assumed they will stay there, especially when it's been ten plus years. Neutral Milk Hotel has forcefully meandered back into the limelight defying all of our expectations. Over the past [...]
It may indeed be the case that as a bona fide genre, dance-punk has never been anything more than the product of a subculture media hellbent on fabricating its own buzz or simply an example of the post-millennium tail-wagging-the-dog phenomenon at work in the arts. After all, detractions like these have asterisked nearly every claim for legitimacy made by proponents of the genre, with most listeners dismissing it as duplicitous Dance music sporting some insincere rough edges. Imaginary or not though, the waves of easy-access recording technology brought on by the early 2000s yielded even larger waves of [...]

America's economy limps along and our leaders bicker on, so how refreshing that Sir Richard Branson for the third consecutive year offered recession-battered music lovers another world-class music festival for free, only requesting the good karma be paid forward with a small donation to benefit homeless youth. Deadmau5 made history as the first electronic dance music act to close the festival on a stage previously played only by bands and hip-hop acts. Anyone new to deadmau5 definitely left schooled as the multi-genre Canadian producer, with a spectacular full-stage theatrical LED lighting extravaganza, struck a [...]

Previously on Stereogum, we shared Twin Shadow's live performance video for " Tyrants Destroyed " filmed at his RAD Studio in Bushwick, a video replete with general modded-out wonkiness. Now, we've got another Johnny Woods -directed video from the series, a clip for Hooray For Earth's True Loves album closer "Black Trees." It features Zambri and the same sort of analog video synthesizer effects. Which is to say, it looks good: Read More...

Written for TheAudioPerv.com Photos by Tamea Agle ( photobytamea.com ) More photos below. Upon arriving at the large canyon where Pacific Festival: OC was situated, my first thought was "where is everyone?" Even though the festival had already been going on for about an hour before my photographer Tamea and I got there, there was no line getting in and barely anyone wandering around the grounds. We staked out the place, crossing through the main stage area, through the array of still-close food trucks, to [...]
As we drove down the 5 freeway headed to the Pacific Festival, the excitement level was rising like a hot kettle on the stove. With a loaded lineup headlined by Snoop Dogg & Cut Copy and artists such as Calvin Harris, Phantogram, Ghostland Observatory, Steve Aoki, Fred Falke, Bag Raiders, The C902s, !!! (Chk, Chk, [...]
A hot sweaty dance party broke out at Irvine Ranch Saturday night as !!!, Steve Aoki, and Snoop Dogg brought the beat to this late summer Orange County festival.
Check out the Outside Lands Festival recap here, if you haven't already. Otherwise enjoy the image gallery below of the majority of the bands I caught over the weekend. What an amazing time, hopefully I can get back there again next year. Until then, enjoy the photos. Like my photos, want to holler at me, [...]
We were swept up by dramatic thematic talented musicians and dance-pumped power jams. Sunday solidified how magical Outside Lands 2011 really was.

In the 1960s, San Francisco certainly seemed like the place to be. The hippie counterculture movement of that period, specifically in this city, is something that's popular among historians, musicians, politicians, travelers, ramblers, and all in-between. And that's not a surprise… it was a pretty radical time. Many people today often talk about wishing they could time travel to the '60s to spend a day with Jerry Garcia and Janis Joplin. Maybe I've just been hanging around too many hippies lately. Outside Lands marked its fourth year by showing that after all this time, San [...]

The third and final day of Outside Lands wrapped up yesterday and I was there to catch a bunch of the untz-y action. I made the festival grounds just in time for a full !!! (Chk Chk Chk) set, a high-energy Major Lazer set that seriously got people rocking and waving their shirts, a bit of the Decemberists then the remainder of STS9, and a headlining slot by Deadmau5 that brought the kids to their feet hopping and wearing glowsticks and random furry costume accessories. In other words, it was [...]
The final day of Outside Lands festival, arguably the best day of music of the three days, depending on who you talk to of course. On my schedule were 8 bands that I marked out the previous night, but as the day wore on and my feet became broken, that game plan changed, though I [...]
