Two highly anticipated albums will drop in March this year from our New York Punk Funk cousins namely !!! and LCD Soundsystem. Myth Takes is the title of the third album from !!! or chk chk chk, (Whichever way you pronounce it) and judging by the tracks that I have heard is a great leap on from their last outing 'Louden Up Now' (tracks like Me & Giuliani and Hello? Is Thing On? aside) which disappointed these ears slightly. I'd say the new tracks are a bit more funk and slightly less punk. [...]

Well, amid the sharp decline and nearly assured death of the "fun while it lasted" genre of dance rock (or dance-punk, depending on what you choose to call it), the artists that originally helped to propogate the movement continue to press on and have slated several releases for 2007. It only seems right though, that the genre would lose steam when so many great dance records were released in 2005 and very few in 2006 (The Rapture and Hot Chip pretty much being the only exceptions). All those artists needed a break and while they were gone people stopped caring. [...]

image by: mi-zo Happy New Year! I hope everybody had a tremendous new year's celebration. We went to a party at a friend's house who has a metal door. We drew with a wipe board marker on the door to indicate variously ascending levels of drunken stupor, and then used magnetic legos to track our progress toward the top marker: face down. Luckily, we didn't make it to face down by 2 o'clock, as we dj'd from 2AM-4 for the afterhours thing at [...]
not sure when Myth Takes will be released. but from what i've heard it's pretty killer. a real flaming lips sensibility about it. !!! "A New Name" !!! "Heart of Hearts" !!! "Bend Over Beethoven" !!! "All My Heroes Are Weirdos" BEST SONG NAME EVER BONUS: !!! "Me And Giuliani Down By The School Yard (A True Story) (Intensifieder Sunracapellectroshit Mix)"
Noonday Underground "Put You Back Together" - Think of this as being song one, side A for 2007. Aside from simply sounding like a fresh start, it overflows with measured yet confident optimism, and that's certainly something that ought to become a running theme for the coming year. Even with a mediocre vocalist, this song would be vibrant and energizing, but Daisy Martey's performance pushes the recording way over the top as she blasts her voice through the red and into the white as though she's attempting to burn a hole in the universe with [...]
We hope that you have a great time ringing in the New Year. Play it safe, have fun, and keep coming back here for more in 2007. Enjoy the musak. James Brown-DJ Rad Remix-Sex Machine mp3 from Funk It-Remixed Hits...
Well, we're in the last few days of 2006 and many are already beginning to look forward to next year in music. What's in store for 2007 you may ask? I've made a schedule of sorts of albums that are being released in 2007 (or are being projected to be released) that I'm looking forward to. It's a understatement to say that it looks like it's going to be a great year for music. If I have a single/demo/live song from the album I've included it as an MP3 download. I'm going on a cruise this week [...]

The last Miscellaneous post of the year and it's one I'm quite happy with as I don't think any of these artists have been featured here before. Apologies for the third party links, but I'm still struggling for a dedicated internet connection. Deerhoof - +81 (via Pitchfork ) Tom Waits – Lucinda (via Both Sides of the Mouth ) Arizona - Splintering (via IGIF ) [...]

It's bittersweet for me to say that I have already heard several albums being released in 2007 that I find more enjoyable than the majority of my favorites for this year. An optimist would say that it just means 2007 is shaping up to be a fantastic year for music, while a pessimist would pout that it signifies how the music industry in 2006 was disappointing in general. Personally, I feel it's a mixture of both though this year was by no means disappointing. Along with new releases from Of Montreal and Field Music, I am really enjoying Myth [...]

“Me and Giuliani Down by the Schoolyard (a true story)" by !!! which clocks in at 9:04 This record fell right into my lap. I was at a store in the East Village looking for records to buy that I could grab bit 'n pieces from for this music project I had going on. My search, and the music project, went nowhere. But in the midst of digging through loads of discarded twaddle I turned around and came across the 12" of “Me and Giuliani Down by the Schoolyard [...]
