As usual, Sundazed has some interesting releases lined up for Record Store Day this year. Gene Clark fans should be particularly pleased to see a trio of 7" single releases featuring the late Byrd. Recorded under Gene Clark's name, "One In A Hundred"/"She's The Kind Of Girl" is actually something of a long-lost Byrds reunion. Recorded in 1970, the other four founding members of the Byrds backed up their former leader for these recordings. This single features the songs in their "unsweetened" form, sourced from the surviving, original rough-mix mono reels. "Why Not Your Baby"/"Lyin' [...]

In the pantheon on great "lost" albums, the Beach Boys ' Smile , may be the most sought after by fans. The album was intended be the follow up to the band's seminal 1966 release Pet Sounds . Rumors have swirled for years about the recording sessions for the album, which included a lot of turmoil from within the band and a healthy dose of bizarre behavior from Brian Wilson , eventually leading the album to be officially being scrapped. While songs from the Smile sessions - like Good Vibrations, Surf's Up and [...]

The infamous Chocolate Watch Band from San Jose California are the quintessential garage psyche band; their story is angst ridden and strange. Chocolate Watch Band, originally formed in 1965, went through a relatively complex series of personnel rearrangements settling for a short while on the lineup most familiar to fans consisting of Dave Aguilar, lead vocals and harmonica, Mark Loomis, lead git and keys, Bill Flores, bass, Sean Tolby, rhythm guitar and Gary Andrijasevich on drums. It was this incarnation that earned Chocolate Watch Band its reputation as an excellent live act by becoming known for their wildness and raw [...]
13th Floor Elevators, Van Morrison's Them and San Jose, California's The Chocolate Watch Band. All three came up the other night while discussing favorite renditions of Dylan's "It's All Over Now Baby Blue." Me, I'm tied between The Chocolate Watchband and Them as, really, the two are not all that dissimilar. I've always assumed the [...]
Good times last night at the Whitehorse. Mark's birthday party. I didn't get nearly as intoxicated as Friday night, but I still managed to have a good time. It just goes to show, kids: you don't need an excessive amount of alcohol to have a good time. Sure, it helps - and boy does it ever help - but you can't always rely on it. You're only supposed to rely on it when it's really imperative that you do so. You know, like a crutch. A social crutch. You wouldn't want to walk around in public [...]

Merry Christmas, Everybody. The pictures and video from last night's shenanigans are beginning to filter in, very slowly, so you'll have to wait to see the really good stuff. The night turned into a shit-show very early. There was me, the mouse. There was Tom, the lion. There were two pixies with LED lights and tiny stereo speakers on their wings. There was Zach in a cow hat, Pat in a rabbit mask, Ken, Katie, Arthur, Kelsie, Autumn, Shaun, Erin, and probably others I'm forgetting. We started our pub crawl in the Los Feliz neighborhood, at Ye Rustic Inn. My [...]
The events of last night, from my perspective, were pretty horrifying. Maybe soul-crushing would be a more-apt description. Either way, I think it makes for a good story. I was invited to a record listening party at a friend's house. He happens to be an insanely knowledgeable, Grammy-nominated music scholar. I spent all week trying to figure out what two songs I could bring to the party that would impress this guy and his friends. I considered bringing the weirdest, wackiest private/vanity records in my collection. But I didn't want to come off like a snob. I thought [...]
I didn't post an entry last night. I was too busy enjoying a birthday dinner with my girlfriend. I know some of you mongoloids see it as an affront whenever I skip a day of blogging, but hopefully you'll understand the circumstances this time. Furthermore, I just don't like you, and I don't give a fuck if you come here every Sunday looking for MP3s. I wanted some good Italian food last night and I was not going to let a silly little website stand in my way. Speaking of which, I got a letter from the city [...]

Contrairement à Rocket From the Tombs , The Chocolate Watchband a au moins eu la chance d'enregistrer des albums. [...]

chocolate watch band - "it's all over now, baby blue" (download) Chocolate Watch Band 's The Inner Mystique has been getting some heavy rotation around these parts lately. Top to bottom this record is great. These guys were from San Jose, CA and primarly active in the late '602s. They had many disputes with their manager, Ed Cobb, because Ed ended up hiring session musicians to record half this album without telling the band. From what I've heard, the band [...]

Being a bit young in '65 (one year old) to hear The Brogues play; it was some years before I came across them via a mixtape done by a good record-collecting friend. I raved about it, to anyone who'd listen, and many who would rather not have; tried to push it (unsuccessfully) as an ideal cover for a band i knew... "we'd have heard of it if it was any good..." they said - fools!. Thankfully, and quite rightly, many bands have not been so short-sighted as to ignore this fine tune from the very short-lived [...]

Comments: Probably the second time I ever heard this song. Still, I like spy feel to this espionage [...]

This week's 'Full Rare Album Thursday' is a doozy, no, its a double-doozy. Way back in 1965 a garage rock band called The Chocolate Watchband formed in Cupertino, California. They disbanded two years later in 1967 but managed to release two of the finest albums ['No Way Out' & 'Inner Mystique'] of the psychedelic era. [...]

An exciting new music collection celebrates the 40th Anniversary of "The Summer of Love" in San Francisco. The counterculture celebration on the American West Coast proved to change the way music was made and people viewed war and culture. This dynamic period actually lasted far longer than a single summer. The "Love is the Song We Sing: San Francisco Nuggets" collection takes in music spanning from 1965-1970. The four-disc, whopping 77-song collection is a superior mix. "Love" is a comprehensive collection of choice songs representing artists both known and those lost in time. [...]
