Club Fonograma had LAMC fever last year when our beloved writer Blanca Méndez (a newbie back then) and guest photographer JP Abello brought the one-week experience to our personal computers. CF won't be covering this year's Latin Alternative Music Conference unfortunately, but that doesn't stop us from getting excited about it. Plenty of people we love will be there. LAMC week will run July 6-9 and, as it does every year, will bring Latin Alternative's cream of the crop to New York City. What we love about this event is that it's not only an industry forum, but [...]

The amount of good performances at the Latin Grammys' gala shrinks every year, but we're not too cool to watch, it's a great night to zoom out of our Latin hipster world and see the industry as a whole. The award show (on Univision) keeps boosting its ratings, and those scores are ultimately the determining factors on who gets to perform at the show. Consider this, Univision is firing Despierta America's hosts one at a time (like every week), they even said farewell to Cristina Saralegui. Why? Deep breath, because they want to appeal to a new generation of viewers [...]

I didn't go to after hours last night. Not because I was necessarily done partying - and not even because I was excited to get back to my hotel and break into the pool. I flipped my switch... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

Last night saw your faithful correspondent catching the Live Nation Latino showcase at Antone's. Walking to the venerable venue, located on the western edge of Austin's mega-downtown, was perhaps the night's hardest endeavor. Besides the previously mentioned parking troubles, and the borderline-extortionist tactics taken by virtually every vendor in the city, there were still St. Patrick's Day party-goers more than eager to solicit random high-fives, inadvertent pushing, and enthusiastic cheering for a cover band who I can only describe as "the Killers meet Journey." It was a nightmare far worse than anything I ever read in Scary Short Stories [...]

There are two ways in which you can open your senses to a multitude of music from dozens of countries in just one sitting. One is called the Eurovision Song Contest (39 nations), the other is the Music Alliance Pact (now at 36 nations this month thanks to the addition of Metal Israel ). In the most unlikely turn of events since The Pop Cop founded MAP, these two forces are about to overlap. Our Estonian counterparts Popop selected a singer called Malcolm Lincoln for December's MAP , and last [...]
