Choir of Young Believers from Denmark is sci-fi pop with 80s/Joy Division undertones. The beats are muted and the synth is prominent on "Patricia's Thirst." "Nye Nummer Et" takes a wholer, more cinematic tone, swelling with a violin and minor-key falsetto, bordering on Active-Child indie-opratic. Despite the name, Choir of Young Believers started out as the solo project for Danish singer-songwriter Jannis Noya Makrigiannis, whose debut LP, This Is For The White In Your Eyes , saw light in 2008. Next year, however, Makrigiannis will return, this time with a fully fleshed-out lineup in tow, for the the project's sophomore album, Rhine Gold . For the past few years, the 80s have been a carcass the indiesphere is desperately picking over like a group of starving buzzards. However, that doesn't mean these more nostalgic releases don't have their bright spots. So, here's a track from the forthcoming Choir of Young Believers album, Rhine Gold . It'll be out via Ghostly in March of 2012, and the first track to drop, "Patricia's Thirst," is a pretty fun and hooky combination of synth basslines and dreamy vocals. Enjoy!
