A collaborative effort between Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti of tragically now-defunct avant-garde industrialists Throbbing Gristle and Nik Colk Void of ratchet clankers Factory Floor was always predestined to embody the most subversive of listening experiences. That it was recorded in one improvisational sitting in the gloomiest guts – the Studio Theatre – of Camden's rightfully esteemed Roundhouse at last year's Short Circuit bash (put on by Daniel Miller's Mute Records, the label which is of course releasing this incarnation of the incontrovertibly progressive) wholly validates its Transverse designation (or indeed epithet), its four compositions periodically simmering [...]

On May 29th, 1981, Throbbing Gristle performed their last live show at the Kezar Pavillion in San Francisco, CA. This legendary performance marked the initial breakup of the group and end of its mission. One of the attendees remembers : You know for the life of me I can't remember anymore about the actual music. I can remember closing my eyes during one piece and floating off into the 4th dimension (no drugs here just TG). I can remember jumping up and down because of the intense beat, and I can [...]

How was 2011 for you? Simon Lewicki: It was a great year! We played lots of shows, did lots of remixes, and people in the U.S. are getting to know us. (We're quite a big deal in Australia, though.) [ Laughs ] Chris Carter: Amazing to get our album out in Australia and soon to be U.S. as well! Disappointed I wasn't abducted by extra-terrestrials, though. Highlights? Simon: Having our self-titled studio album finally come out in Australia was great, and having some songs in movies was pretty [...]

2011 has been a great year for reissues. Starting with Conrad Schnitzler's seminal LP Con (reissued as Ballet Statique by the good folks at M=Minimal), Harald Grosskopf's Synthesist , classics from Drexciya, UR and Arthur Russell, and ending with one of my all-time favorite acts: Throbbing Gristle. For those of you who have no clue (is that even possible?) who Throbbing Gristle are and their impact on electronic music, here's some starting points to kick off your research: TG's Wikipedia , their official website and [...]

The crucial second chapter in the development of Throbbing Gristle.
Optimo Music have very wisely had Chris Carter's 1985 hit Moonlight remastered and reinterpreted by Neurotic Drum Band, to immense effect. Both the original and NDB's versions are a... DOWNLOAD/ STREAM http://www.feelmybicep.com

Optimo music return with a very special release; Chris Carter's 'Moonlight' was part of his 1985 long player 'Mondo Beat'. The record has been bootlegged many times and has been a DJ favorite since the late eighties. Optimo employ the services of Neurotic Drum Band & Oneohtrix Point Never for their reinterpretations of the original (And they are reinterpretations as there were no parts to work with and they had to start from scratch). Its the NDB take they we feature here, in the words of the label: 'Keeping the original feel, slowing [...]
This will play out. This will be roundly buggered, sliced and diced and shat out all over the lightflashes and discofloors of your local sleaze pit. It's good music for dancing girls, car chases, hedge-trimming, car-jumping. Chris Carter has the Abba fixations, of course, but the Devil's in the disco. The Neurotic Drum Band remix (reimagining) maybe slows the beat down a little to create something that feels vaguely reminiscent of Spacemen 3's "Big City;" a disco slur, narcotized but just danceable, if you're prepared to shamble and wave, if you're knees are locked and loaded. [...]

Daniel Lopatin is upping his presence ahead of the release of the Oneothrix Point Never album Replica in November. Yesterday we got to hear the title track from that record, and now comes a remix he's undertaken for former Throbbing Gristle member Chris Carter. The original version of "Moonlight" surfaced in 1985, and is being reissued by Optimo as part of a series of Carter re-releases that includes the 1980 album The Spaces Between . This OPN remix of the song is all harsh metallic shapes that gradually break apart into something more melodic as [...]

Another Chris Carter release from the Optimo Music stable, this time in the form of his 1985 track 'Moonlight' backed up with remixes, or rather reinterpretations - as they're not constructed from original parts, by Neurotic Drum Band and Oneohtrix Point Never. The first one to get an airing is Neurotic Drum Band's version which, I'm fairly sure, will be coming to a dancefloor near you soon. It's a brooding monster with a stunning synth intro leading into a slick, rhythmic track which flourishes and pulses in all the right places. Coming [...]

chris carter - "beat" (download) I had this cassette about 15 or so years ago. I remember picking it up in the bargain bin of a record store I was working at in NH because it was on Mute Records (home to Depeche Mode, Nitzer Ebb, etc). I also knew he was part of Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey. Unfortunately, I didn't really listen to the tape much, and at the time, I probably wouldn't have really loved it. Revisiting it recently though, [...]
(Quote from Iain M. Banks , image is concept art for the Forewer War film adaptation that is on the works) You may be aware that members of the 20jazzfunkgreats community infiltrated the sprawling Barcelonan fields where Primavera Sound took place last week. This was a great endeavour for us crowd-challenged agoraphobes, but one that bore its fruit in many a mind-blowing concert. It is with retrospective wisdom that your rapporteur has come to realise how great the overall thing was, in spite of some software issues that you may have heard about [...]
