I'm sure Justin Vernon felt good about his [...]
We just posted an entertaining interview with London band Scoundrels a few weeks ago. Now the band have announced the next single from their self titled debut will be 'Loud N Proud' and I think you can agree it is quite the stormer. In the words of singer Ned Wyndham "The track is really an [...]

Chris de Burgh (born Christopher John Davison, 15 October 1948, Venado Tuerto, Santa Fe Province, Argentina) is a British/Irish singer-songwriter. He is most famous for his 1986 love song "The Lady in Red". The Getaway is singer Chris de Burgh's sixth original album, released on A&M Records in 1982. The album was spearheaded by the U.S. hit, "Don't Pay the Ferryman", a strangely upbeat, mythology-tinged ballad that evokes images of the Grim Reaper. Read more »

Nightbus covering Chris De Burgh 's 'Lady In Red'. Wonderful. Enjoy.

Holy crap, dear hearts! It's December 22nd! I'd better slide you some top-notch Christmas music to make sure your holidays is filled with those things which are awesome. IN TIME, THE LORD WILL RISE 'Round these parts the greatest contemporary Christmas musician is considered to be Sufjan Stevens, who put out five EPs of Christmas music from 2001-2007. Each collection contained not only thoughtful interpretations of traditional numbers, but originals that hit all the holiday touchstones: reverence, joy, Jesus, Santa, and family tension. Bonus elf points for the [...]

? Utilizing a single 5 second loop from the rather atrocious 1986 hit Lady In Red by Irish singer-songwriter Chris De Burgh , I encountered this mesmerizing video and remix, if you can call it that. Sounding like perhaps a collaboration between Daft Punk in their ambient mood and a latter day David Gilmour, it consists of probably the single most forlorn adult-contemporary lament recent memory can afford me. I will regretfully have to leave the artist field a blank, as I have no idea who is responsible for this. Whoever it is though, [...]
You would have thought that, by now, Chris DeBurgh would have realised he was an acquired taste, and accepted that he's one of those people who you either can't stand, or who you go and see because you really feel as if you should do something with your evenings and you can't sit drinking all night by yourself, can you? Apparently not, though, as he's taken time out of his busy schedule to respond to a bad review the Irish Times gave him. I say "bad"; I mean "fair", of course. Dear Mr Crawley, [...]
This is from his 2004 album The Road to Freedom. MP3 File yousendit
Born in Argentina and raised in the UK, singer/songwriter Chris DeBurgh had reached superstar status in much of Europe and South America when he released his album The Gataway in May of 1983. However, during a career that had already spanned nearly ten years, he had been ignored in the US and UK. Produced by Rupert Hine (The Fixx, Howard Jones), The Getaway featured a heavier reliance on keyboards and, as keyboard-dominate acts were prospering, it proved to break DeBurgh in both the US and England. Driving the breakthrough success was the single [...]

This is probably Chris de Burgh's strongest album even if it is not his most recognized or commercially successful work. I'm not sure if Chris himself picked the tracks for his greatest hits compilation of 1989, Spark to a Flame, or if his record label was responsible. Either way, it reflects the strength of this album that five tracks here made the greatest hits: "Don't Pay the Ferryman," "The
Fans of Chris de Burgh's adult-oriented pop will often cite "Into the Light" (with its massive international hit "The Lady in Red") as their favorite de Burgh album. Fans of de Burgh's early-career acoustic ballads and period stories might cite "Spanish Train" as their favorite. But for me, "The Getaway" is the best. More assured and less precious than his early work but more evocative and
Rumours that Chris DeBurgh has been given permission to play a gig in Tehran have been angrily, angrily denied by the Iranian authorities. The BBC reports : It had been reported in December that the Irish singer would perform with Iranian pop group Arian. But IRNA reported that the Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance had not received a request for the show, nor issued a permit. In Iran, official permission is required to stage a concert. We're given to understand the Iranian spokesperson [...]

Been having one of those periods we all get when things just seem a bit too much to be bothered with. Lethargy, apathy, disillusionment, call it whatever you will, but that's partly the reason for my lack of posts recently. It will pass, I'm sure. However, in this 'altered state' I've also been a little sorry to see so few posts, blogs, articles, etc. on the "inter-web" that have sparked the usual level of interest for me. Hence the lack of the 'Highlights of the [...]

It's a sappy one, but a classic. Written by Johnny Christopher, Mark James and Wayne Carson Thompson, and originally recorded and released by Brenda Lee in 1972, Always On My Mind has really been made famous by Willie Nelson, the Pet Shop Boys and Elvis Presley. Willie's version hit number one on the Billboard chart, Pet Shop Boys snuck it into the Top 10 for a short time and Elvis reached number 16 with it on the Hot Country Singles Chart in 1973. The year previous, Brenda Lee could [...]
