Enjoy 'Blue Suede Shoes' below. We're giving away tix to catch CG in NYC! MP3: Chris Garneau - No More Pirates

Perfume Genius - Learning Every time Chris Garneau attempts a lo-fi recording at home, a chill lends itself to the air and a faint lullaby-like sound can be heard interfering with the tape-deck. The more he strains to hear it, the more he's convinced he's captured an electronic voice phenomenon. What he doesn't know is that his ghost has a name: Perfume Genius. I'm gonna keep it as short as the previous ones, just because it's already the 7th of January. I should be listening to 500 2010 records right now! I promised myself I'd provide more regular updates, maybe in a different form than I used to. Oh, and I'll finish my unknown bands from last decade list. Eventually. 20. La Strada - La Strada (EP) ( Ernest Jenning Recording Company ) What? The New [...]
These are songs or albums that we thought deserved a mention, even though they didn't quite make our Best Albums list. Noah and the Whale - The First Days of Spring Diana fought hard to get this album on our Best Albums list, as it was one of her favorites of the year, but there weren't quite enough votes for it, so we're giving it an honorable mention. Here's what she had to say about the album
Magnolia Electric estuvo con los chicos de They Shoot Music (que filman unos videos que da envidia) y tocó "Down The Wrong Road Both Ways". Chris Garneau estuvo en Fearless Music tocando "No More Pirates". Little Boots tocó en los famosos estudios Abbey Road dos de sus canciones: "Remedy" y "New In Town".

In the midst of a very busy Euro/Asia touring schedule Chris Garneau made a stop in Philly last Friday. Oh, what a stop it was. He came to the tiny chapel at First Unitarian Church with a modest ensemble, just a cellist and drummer, and proceeded to play a delightful set of new and old tunes. Garneau is himself a tiny fella so the intimacy of the surroundings only served the warmth of his performance. The brand of music captured on his 2009 album El Radio is [...]
Last year we ran down a list of the best holiday albums that had been released. However, 2009 was a bit sparse for cool new Christmas releases. Lucky for you we decided to scour the world for the best Christmas music from your favorite Muffin artists. For the mix, I tried ...

Well today is a snow day in my part of Colorado, bringing everything outside to a deadened, frozen, thickly-blanketed crawl. It's gorgeous and quiet, and perfect weather for putting the finishing touches on my annual Christmas mix. I do love Christmas music, as you might remember from past years , but I also have a picky palate and am always amazed when I turn on the radio (as I did last night while we played cards) at how many many Christmas songs should have never been made. If I have to hear "Wonderful Christmastime" again, [...]
There have been some rather interesting videos in my in-box lately that I feel compelled to share with you if for no other reason than to loosen a smile or giggle from your lips. First off, Edward Sharpe and The Magnificent Zeros (whom I adore and recently sold out the church) have created a 12 part music video series called SALVO! There is a rather epic sounding story line and from the looks of the production in the first two bits the full offering will play like a short film. It even has a stellar cast [...]
Enjoy 'Fireflies' below. El Radio is one of my absolute favorite LPs of 2009. MP3: Chris Garneau - Blackout

As promised, here is the official soundtrack of the 4th season of Grey's Anatomy. Other than Grey's Anatomy, other hit shows like Gossip Girl, Chuck, Fringe, Glee, Dollhouse, One Tree Hill, Ugly Betty, House and many more. You've got to give a hand to the music supervisors of these shows for their success. The music is not perfect, but it's certainly entertaining. The show goes mostly for indie favorites like The National, Ingrid Michaelson, The Gossip, Tegan and Sara, The Bird and the Bee, Bon Iver, Feist, Goldfrapp, Rilo Kiley, Frightened Rabbit, The Republic Tigers, Yeah Yeah Yeahs and more. [...]
On the fifth day of Christmas my true love gave to me, five golden rings... and a whole bunch of Christmas MP3's. Are you overwhelmed yet? I sure am. I love love love The Firebird Band's "Gift" and even though it really isn't a Christmas song (i.e. not on a Christmas specific album) I've still included it here. It's my comp3ilation so I can do what I want, including making up words that combine letters and numbers. Bah humbug! MP3: Brand New - O Holy Night [...]

Photography by Me! With the pilgrimage complete and honourable mentions dutifully listed and out of the way , it is time to start the list proper-style. Today, No. 35 to No. 17, aka, The Opening Acts! I'm so excited! Are you? What? Why 35? Why 17? Fair enough, question and we've probably got a lot of newcomers around, so let me quickly explain. Tomorrow's mixtape fit the top 16 albums, so starting at No. 17 [...]
Chris Garneau is bizarre. Quite bizarre indeed. But, coming from me, that's typically a compliment. In this case, it definitely is. In fact, I'm about to compare him to basically my two favorite artists of all time: it's like the orchestral and vocal whimsy of Matt Jones meets the dark, playful, genre-bending cabaret of Amanda Palmer. For example, in the third track from his sophomore LP, El
