A late addition to the 2007 Christmas Mix , and a welcome one indeed. I started off the year talking up Chris Garneau's songs , so it's only fitting that I'm writing about him again at the end of the year. "It's Almost Christmas" is actually a new song from Chris - which you can find on his newly released EP, C-Sides - and it's about what you'd expect from him: a lonely, melancholy song tempered slightly with hope and wistfulness. Merry Christmas, eh? "It's Almost Christmas" - Chris [...]

It is that time of the year, the time of the year when our inbox not only gets loaded with new music from artists and bands, but it gets loaded with Christmas music from artists and bands. Here is a handful of those holiday tunes to share today, I am sure there will be more to come, but all of these are new songs for this holiday season . And look out, at this rate there may be another post of this fashion before it is all said and done...... [...]
Chris Garneau recently released an excellent new EP of music entitled C Sides, which he is currently streaming over on his MySpace page. Although one of Garneau's new tracks ("Blackout") may share a title with Britney's latest album, that's where the comparison ends. I could go on contrasting Brit's glossy ...

I usually don't just throw a bunch of songs up at random, but Christmas mixes are the one good reason to do such a thing. So here's my Songs:Illinois Christmas Mix. The two newer songs are both slow burners; one by perenial S:I fave Chris Garneau and the other by S:I overlooked Benji Cossa. P.S. If you have any of the Christmas songs I've posted in the past from Antsy McClain can you please send them to cbonnell@gmail.com so I can add it to this mix. Sorry for lack of a .zip, I'm surprisingly inept [...]
You didn't think I'd forgotten about the Grey's tunes did ya?! The songs from last night's episode were a lot better than the episode itself so I'll just let them do the talking. I did like hearing someone call Bailey "Mandy" though...that was cute. Ben Lee - "What Would Jay-Z Do?" Ben Lee is such a quirky cat. I dig that about him. A lot. His new album Ripe hasn't grown on me the way

(No Ratings Yet) Loading ... Tanto [...]

Calum's been doing a great job with the general Capital Idea! round-ups so I'll let him keep it up whenever he finds the time. I will say, however, that the Xiu Xiu and Wrens shows were amazing. Both bands blew my mind in very different ways. The Capital Idea! Flickr group has been gradually growing in size. Here are a few highlights: Tina Hassannia , a photographer for The Fulcrum (the University of Ottawa's student newspaper) took these great photos of The Walkmen . [...]

The Walkmen bring the party party, but not likely Stephen Harper, to the Bronson Centre on Friday. The Capital Idea! Festival is already underway, having already seen Quebecers The Besnard Lakes and Sunset Rubdown headline their respective shows on the first two nights. But by golly, don't you worry: the rock will still be brought over the course of 9 shows in the next 8 nights, the first half of which has been summarized into this handy little guide below. It's actually [...]

"There are no plans what-so-ever to record another Mojave 3 record" - dire words and a damned strange way to start a press release, especially one most logically targeted at fans of the band that it's purporting to be burying. The band in question is The Loose Salute , the occasion is the release of their debut album Tuned To Love this past Tuesday and the common thread is Ian McCutcheon, drummer for M3 and frontman for the Loose Salute, and the man to whom the above quote is attributed. It [...]

This has been a long week, but Thursday is finally upon us. You can almost taste the weekend, so kick it off with a great show. Baltimore and DC both have something worth seeing tonight, so there aren't any excuses. For those of you in Baltimore, there is a great benefit show at Metro Gallery . Local favorites Rain the Shining headline the evening. They'll be joined by Brooklyn buzz band The Diggs and local band Kadman . Rain the Shining - [...]

Our first issue of Yeti came today, and saying we were pleased would be an understatement. Here's their myspac e. I have been going around buying up all the above average chapbooks and conceptually interesting magazines packed with mixtapes. Yeti is so awesome and fun and the music doesn't hurt. Here's an exclusive track from issue number four. "Lines" - Okkervil River Blogging in France with a dope mp3. If you translate the page, you're [...]

Eitt af því sem ég elska við að fara á tónleika hér erað stundum eru upphitunarböndin--sem þú hefur aldrei heyrt um--svo yndislega frábær. Þannig kynntist ég einmitt Akron/Family, Grizzly Bear, Just About To Burn, Regina Spektor, Lance Romance, Lucky Dragons, og endalausum öðrum frábærum böndum (þar af sumum uppáhalds í dag). (( Þetta verður hrósfærsla )) Þegar ég sá hina yyyyyndislegu og gríðarlega sætu El Perro Del Mar um daginn, sem var jafn frábær og ég bjóst við, með lögin í mjöööög flottri akústík útgáfu, voru Marissa Nadler og Chris Garneau að hita upp. [...]
