Here is Day 5 of the Holiday contest. This time you can win a pair of tickets to see Camp Radio and Winchester Warm at Ottawa's Club Saw on December 10, 2011 . This show should be filled with holiday cheers. Don't forget to bring a non-perishable food item for the Ottawa Food Bank (?). Thanks to Chris Page of Camp Radio and One Kind Word for setting up this contest and show. [...]

What's this, a Monday Video Hits? Unheard of! It's strange I know, but this was intended for last week until work decided to kick my ass on Thursday & Friday, and so Monday videos it is! This is going to come as a surprise to roughly no one that reads the hill, but trying to make a go of it as a working band in Canada is hard. Very hard. I certainly knew this, but reading this blog entry from Toronto's Papermaps about their recent HPX adventure was a good reminder of [...]

Wait, have we gotten to this point, a mere two weeks before the 2011 Halifax Pop Explosion , uhhhhh, explodes out of the gate without posting on the almighty Herohill showcase? It appears that we have, but that's a wrong we're obviously righting at this very moment. But we can't talk about the showcase without mentioning the very exciting fact that we are involved with something else very exciting this year: The Saved By Vinyl, Kelp Records & Herohill BBQ being held at the amazing Company House on the afternoon [...]

From one show to another on September 17, 2011. I went down to Babylon Nightclub where it was Camp Radio 's album release show. They released their second album Campista Socialista which sadly the vinyl edition wasn't available but the CD edition was. I got there when they played their second song. Fearing if I arrived that the show will have ended. But it didn't and all I can say was the show was rocking loud! [...]

You see that fancy poster ^^^? Well, it's the first of many ways we are spreading the word about the herohill, Saved By Vinyl, Kelp Records HPX mega jams happening during HPX. We've loved both labels for many moons now, so getting the chance to get some of their artists on not one, but two shows is something of which we are very proud. We will be posting up at our favorite venue - The Company House - for the official showcase (lovingly named the Bottomfeeders Ball) on Friday evening and [...]
![Camp Radio – Campista Socialista [Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3704149_lg.jpg)
I will admit to this. This is my first time listening to a Camp Radio 's new album Campista Socialista. There is something quirky and cool about that album title. But I've seen the band live two times on Kelp Records related events. For those that don't know, the band members consist of: Chris Page Dave Draves Scott Terry I didn't know it's Camp Radio's second album to date since [...]
Herohill delivers a tribute album of 'Hall and Oates' songs covered by Canadian artists.

Ottawa's Kelp Records is turning 17 this year. It's becoming an yearly event for myself to see what Kelp Records has in store for their celebration in the music scene. This year's event coincides with CHUO 's Funding Drive. Here is blurb for this year's events ( taken from their site ). We're very excited to announce this year's KELP 17 lineup, happening May 5-7; lots of changes from the usual, and lots of reunion shows too. This year we're throwing [...]

This year we wanted to do something special for the readers. Instead of asking for remixes, new songs or interviews full of badly phrased questions we thought to ourselves, "Selves, what's one thing we love?" Obviously, something involving the Steelers or Bayern Munich wasn't really an option, but our unashamed love of Hall & Oates was one we thought we could leverage. End result, we asked bands to record Hall & Oates covers, hoping anyone would say yes. In the end, we did ok... we got about 11 songs in time for today's launch, but we also have [...]

Here is another installment of the best of 2010 Canadian albums. So many great albums out in 2010. There are two 2010 Polaris Music Prize nominated album and two from Ottawa in this list. This time its from #31-#40. Hope you will like who is in this list. Don't forget to check out their music. Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (II) A change from their debut album and its more of a trancey [...]

So here it is. The LPs list. For anyone that might be reading herohill for the first time, the list might look a little chaotic, but for the readers that have been around for a while, these 30 LPs are ones I've gushed about over and over again. I wasn't going to draw it out for three posts, but the time it took to add the MP3s and format the page was more than I had allotted last night... so sorry for the Biggest Loser type fake suspense. [...]

Forgot to post this after OCFF night on October 15th . This is the second year Kelp Records has done this during OCFF at Raw Sugar Cafe ( First year was called YOWzas! ). I like to call it the day after recovery. Anyways it was a great sunny afternoon of music. Playing were: Tanya Davis Jim Bryson [...]

It's no secret we are big fans of Chris Page here on herohill. Whether it's fronting the fantastic Camp Radio or banging out scrappy bar room punkish love songs as a solo artist, well, we are drinking what he's pouring. So, up for grabs we have two beautiful slabs or acetate - rough and tumble 123 180 gram-ers - and all you have to do is email us with your contact info or leave a comment with the important info below. For those unfamiliar with the Pager, A Date with a [...]

Decided to make a separate entry from Day 1 of Bluesfest . Since there were alot of photos I have taken and needed to organize them well. For those that didn't want to check out Iron Maiden and wanted something less heavy. This was one show I decided to check out. This one was the Kelp Records Revue showcase featuring: Andrew Vincent Chris Page [...]

Canada Day 2010 has gone and pass. I will make separate entries to who I went to see on Canada Day. First up I headed over to Confederation Park to catch abit of Jill Zmud's performance. It was very nice and she had her backing back this time. At least I got there and she sang "Gold". Here are the photos from the performance. [...]

Looking for something to do ton this fine Friday afternoon? Well, the Kelp records BBQ is probably as much of a lock as it gets for me. The whole lineup is great, but I'd highly suggest getting to The Global Backpackers Village on King/Spadina by 2:30 to see the charismatic Chris Page . The Camp Radio - they are also performing - offered up a collection of songs that could easily be described as a mix of Bragg meets The Shins, but by no means sounds like something fabricated. [...]
Here is part 2 of who I or you should check out at NXNE in Toronto. So this will be Thursday night's event. It is going to be busy insane Thursday at NXNE. A hard decision to choose on who to see badly. Let's check out who will be playing. Found out that from Thursday to Sunday there is going to be a " Live in Bellwoods " picnic series at Trinity Bellwoods Park. It is present by The Musebox and Humble Empire. [...]

May 14th was the first night of Kelp Records turning 16. With the first night of Kelp 16 it was Jim Bryson and Chris Page with Jill Zmud . It was a great night for both musicians to play under the same building. It was very cool to experience and being at the Mayfair Theatre. Chris Page played first. Played mostly from his album "A Date With A Smoke Machine" which has [...]

Kelp Records is 16 years old. If only Think About Life was on Kelp, then they would be singing "Sweet Sixteen" for them. For those out of the loop. Kelp Records is a Ottawa based music label and its home to various artist like Jim Bryson , Andrew Vincent , Chris Page , The Acorn (who still calls Kelp home). Its becoming an annual tradition celebrating the label's achievement and to have fun with the music. This the second year now that the shows will be taking [...]

Douglas Wilkinson Okay, so I spent (too) much of yesterday in planes and airports and places, in general, not conducive to blogging so I am essentially taking today (or took last night) off to get my head together a bit, and am going to just toss this up for now. As announced last week , I'm proudly co-presenting the Toronto stop of the Kelp 16 anniversary tour, marking the fact that the Ottawa-based label is now old enough to drive. To help celebrate, we're having Cleveland cult hero singer-songwriter Bill Fox [...]
