Death Cab has been taking it easy this year after a relentless 2006 of touring, and in the mean time, Chris Walla has been diligently putting together his own solo album for release January 29, 2008 called Field Manual . Today we bring you the first track from the album to be made available, "Sing Again." Walla is best known as the guitar player for Death Cab for Cutie, but on this album he played all the instruments, with the exception of a few of the drum tracks where he's assisted by fellow Death Cabbie Jason McGerr and New [...]

Chris Walla , guitarist and producer for Death Cab For Cutie , is set to release his debut solo album on Barsuk Records (former home to DCFC) titled Field Manual, out January 29th. Walla, who has produced the likes of Tegan & Sara and the Decemberists, performs all the instruments on the album with the exception of the drums. Looks like Chris keeps busy in his free time. The first single "Sing Again" is really catchy and the vocals sound very similar to Ben Gibbard (shocker). Between the piano, guitar line, [...]

[Photo Credit: Ryan Russell] Death Cab for Cutie's Chris Walla has his debut solo album Field Manual complete and set for a January 29, 2008 release date. I suppose this guy isn't busy enough, what with his main band and all of his production work, including Tegan & Sara and The Decemberists. Exciting! Field Manual full track listing: 1. Two Fifty [...]

Download: Chris Walla - "Sing Again" Everything Chris Walla touches I just eat up. Whether it be Death Cab for Cutie, The Thermals or Tegan and Sara, he doesn't really ever miss. Here's the first track from his January 29 full-length "Field Manual" on Barsuk Records, entitled "Sing Again." (Ian Anderson)

Oh man I was gonna wait till lunch to post this but it's so damn good I've gotta share it now! Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie has a solo album titled Field Manual dropping at the end of January. Walla plays all the instruments on the album with the exception of drums where he gets help from fellow Death Cab-er Jason McGerr and New Pornographer Kurt Dahle. The MP3 they've released sounds great- check it out. MP3: Chris Walla- Sing Again Field Manual Tracklist: [...]

You probably know Chris Walla as the guitarist of Death Cab for Cutie. He's also produced albums for a ton of my favorite bands including The Decemberists, Nada Surf, and The Long Winters. He'll be releasing his first solo album in January 2008 on Barsuk Records. Check out a song from that release: MP3 : Sing Again

It doesn't matter. You can rip away Chris Walla's laptop Mr. Airport Security Guy. A couple of weeks go by and we already have the bouncy new track from his forthcoming album. Thankfully, Walla of Death Cab For Cutie had...
Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla is helping kick 2008 off with his debut solo album, Field Manual . The record is currently slated for release on January 29 via Barsuk, and now we have a sneak peak at one of the album's tracks. The producer and multi-instrumentalist performed every single instrument, with the exception of the drums on "Sing Again," "Everybody On" and "It's Unsustainable" by Jason McGerr (Death Cab For Cutie) and the drums on "The Score," "Geometry &c.," "Everyone Needs A Home," "Our Plans Collapsing," "Archer v. Light" and "Saint Modesto" by Kurt Dahle (The New [...]

There's been much buzz about CHRIS WALLA ( Death Cab For Cute ) and his new album, The Field Manual due out on January 28th via Barsuk records. Known both as the guitarist/producer for DCFC in addition to his other roles as a producer for other artists such as Tegan & Sara , Decemberists . I have no real excuse for not blogging for four days, it's the week before classes start and I have been getting in as much pre-semester revelry as possible and not devoting time to blogging which is my fault. Don't forget: you can catch up on the music I would've posted if you listen to my guest dj debut tonight on WRVU Nashville (91.1.fm) 8-10 p.m. central. Those of you not in Nashville can listen via WRVU's website at 8 pm central. [mp3] Prayers & Tears of Arthur Digby Sellers [...]

Tegan & Sara released a pretty amazing collection of pop songs last Tuesday, which is not being properly praised in my opinion. A lot of bloggers are taking the angle of "I'm only posting about this because of who is involved," and while there are a good deal of immensely talented people involved, that is simply not a fair stance to take. Let's run the shortlist: Matt Sharp ( Weezer , The Rentals ) plays some things, Jason McGerr ( Death Cab ) plays some drums, Hunter from Afi (.....well.....) plays some things, and [...]
From Devo nods to sincere stares , Maxïmo Park's clearly put forethought and finances into their Earthly Pleasures clips, which we appreciate. It's always around video #3 that the laziness sets in/the coffers run dry, though, and unless you're JT , that's when things go to shit. (For JT, it hit the skids with #4.) And aside from a swirly trick or two, it is pretty standard we're playing/you're cheering fare ... but we love this song's hook (and bridge), so here ya go.
One of my top 5 Radiohead songs as covered by Chris Walla of Death Cab for Cutie. Thanks Stereogum ! Chris Walla - "Polyethelyne (Parts 1 & 2)" (MP3) Everything that I like: Music, UCLA, NBA, Lost, Los Angeles, whatever I like

Chris Walla has made a name for himself as a producer, as well as guitarist, for 'indie to major label' band, Death Cab For Cutie. Since around 1998, Walla has also been involved in a solo project he calls Martin Youth Auxiliary. But in the past seven years only one recording has been released, 1999's self-titled cassette on Elsinor Records. On his website is word that he will finally release, through Barsuk, a new solo work in March 2007. Walla has a number of mp3s offered on his website. From covers' [...]

Oh, my good heavens. I've found your new favorite website: The Museum of Kitschy Stitches . It is a collection of unspeakably awful sweaters knitted during the height of bad, bad, bad fashion in the '70s and '80s, combined with snarky commentary. You will marvel at what passed as acceptable to wear outside the home (PS - There's a book too ). My dear sweet lord, it's handicrafts gone wrong. You could imagine yourself snuggling into one of these bad boy confections while you listen to [...]

It seems Barsuk is going to release a Chris Walla solo CD in March of next year; which sounds a bit ambitious, considering it hasn't been recorded yet? I laugh a little bit inside when I hear of Chris Walla, ever since I saw Death Cab playing in Boston, and here's why: Chris only dances backward. While he was playing he would dance backward for maybe five paces' distance, and then walk forward until he was at his starting point again, and then dance backward. This continued for the whole show, and it is [...]
