Mixtape: Fourteen Songs about Love for Valentine's Day (Podcast #300) In case you've managed to avoid this news until now, February 14th is Valentine's Day, the greeting card industry holiday that can compel even the least romantic to confront the topic of love. Over the past few years, plenty of our favorite indie rockers have explored the excitement and complications of love in terrific songs. Here, we've collected fourteen tracks about love's many facets, including the swooning romanticism of Real Estate , Cass McCombs , and [...]
Let’s be real, Idolafans: nothing exacerbates a broken heart like the prospect of another Valentine’s Day alone . If the ubiquity of hearts and flowers doesn’t get to you, the smell of chocolate and the constant reminder that everyone else is gettin’ some certainly will. It’s a painful thing to live through, and not something we recommend facing without the help of empathetic music journalists and their playlist-assembling abilities. We’re here for you. So while you’re spending Valentine’s Eve at home, alone, with a heart-shaped box of candy and a wine-shaped box of comfort, crank up this [...]

German-English singer-songwriter Anika , born Annika Henderson, may be relatively unknown, but her voice has character all its own. Henderson, who also worked as a journalist between Berlin and Bristol, was discovered several years back by Portishead member and producer Geoff Barrow , who enlisted her in his Beak> side-project. Her Kim Gordon -esque vocals are meant to sound distant and human, aching for more, as it does on her cover of the Chromatics Kill For Love cut 'In The City'. [...]
Anika's follows up her 2011 self-titled debut with an eponymous EP and its first single is a cover of Chromatics' "In The City." On it Anika takes her brand of post-punk/no wave and rubs it all over the song. Add a little bit of her throaty, polished Nico cooing and synths that sound gleaned from Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" - don't roll your eyes; that song is actually pretty killer - and you have a rendition of "In The City" primed for when Downtown New York was first bubbling. It was produced by Geoff Barrow and Beak>, [...]

Existen tipos de uniones y colaboraciones que no tienen precio, algo como juntar a Chromatics y Anika, aunque solo de un cover se trate. In The City es tomada del próximo EP de Anika programado para Abril.

Only 30 more weeks till any semblance of football. To fill that void, my attention will be directed to my Denver Nuggets and the NBA. The All-Star Break is around the corner and the Nuggets are heating up with an eight game win streak all behind fundamentals: defense, fast break points and points in the paint. Their deep bench will prove that they're more than a one and done team in the playoffs. The trade behind Nene to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Javale Mcgee is yielding large dividends. The mastermind trade behind general manager Masai [...]

By Danielle Shields February 07, 2013 It has been exactly a year since The Soft Hills released their debut album, The Bird Is Coming Down To Earth, in January 2012. The indie-folk band have always been focused on guiding the listener on a journey; all you need to hear is ‘Phoenix’ to know that, and their new album, Chromatisms, continues down this surrealist route. Their psychedelic inclinations for making music make you feel as though you have been locked up in a dream without any escape. Even titling the record Chromatisms suggests an [...]

In continuation of the Dutch theme from the previous post, Kraak & Smaak have decided to share with their fans an unofficial remix of the Chromatic's song "Kill For Love!" They made this sometime last year, and I'm almost upset that it has taken so long for us ton finally hear this remarkable song. It seems the trio really enjoyed making this one, and it definitely shows! These deliciously, deep grooves will be on repeat in my iPod for days to come!
