Dwayne Carter Jr. is full of good lines but the following is hands down my favorite... If I die today it be a holiday..." If there's ever a moment in my life when my perspective is so off or I'm doing something so terribly against my true nature that makes me feel otherwise then there's something wrong. Life is too short to be dishonest with yourself or others and nothing matters that much to put up with bullshit from anyone . I'm lucky to have music, [...]

(photo by cubagallery ) These are 50 tracks that delighted, inspired and fascinated us in 2012 and that we think are worthy of remembering long after the year is over. We present them here in highly unscientific ordered list form, with Matt's songs marked with a "-MG" and my choices with a "-TJ" next to them. To better spread the love, we've stuck with the one song per artist rule. Click here to download all the tracks in a zip and subscribe to our Spotify Playlist to stream them all. Enjoy y'all! [...]
Right then, the top 10 albums of 2012 chosen by the State team. As ever, it's been a fascinating process - especially comparing the list with our mid-year poll . Seven of our final selection where there in July, with three records making their way to the top table. Thanks to all those who contributed, we'll do it all again in six months or so. 10. Hot Chip - In Our Heads ' The rare case of a band getting better and better. 9. Chromatics - Kill [...]

The Recycle Culture crew put on good reason to revisit the Chromatics' excellent "These Street Will Never Look the Same" track from earlier this year. Outfitting it with sharp snares and a dubbed up milieu, RC get a b3sci atta boy for their update. Atta-boy. Chromatics - These Streets Will Never Look the Same (Recycle Culture Remix) Recycle Culture ( Tumblr ) Rating 8.3

Make sure to to check out all of our Best of 2012 coverage. Brother Ali - Mourning In America And Dreaming In Color Along with three other artists on this list, I have been listening to Brother Ali for over ten years now. Back when I was 15, I slowly drew myself into the counter-culture of indie-skate hip-hop; Living Legends, Atmosphere, and Souls of Mischief ruled my 10gb 2nd generation iPod. As time passed, the world changed, [...]

Check out our lists below, and leave a comment with your favorite mixtapes / EPs of the year and we can compare. PREVIOUSLY: THE BEST SONGS OF 2012 BEST MIXTAPES of 2012 Click on [...]

This has been a seriously brilliant year for music and as a music site it's basically a responsibility of ours to make a list of the best. So on one sunny morning all the Purple Sneakers minds got together and here are the Top 50 albums we chose from 2012. 50. Diiv Oshin 49. Alpine A Is For Alpine 48. Breakbot By Your Side 47. The Cast Of Cheers [...]
I love everything this band touches. "Cherry" is on the forthcoming After Dark 2 triple LP from Italians Do It Better . The retro production reminds me of the " Drive " OST, which makes sense since Chromatics had a song on it, but the feel of this song in particular evokes that opening piece by Kavinski. This is now on repeat. You can download the song here . [via Buddyhead ]
Now it's that time to announce our 20 most played/obsessed about/loved records of the year. And in case you missed it yesterday, check out 13 albums that almost made this list in our Honorable Mentions. Happy #holidaze and thank you for ... Continue reading
2012 was a significant year for blasting the "male electro musician" typecast. Throughout the years, I have heard a bevy of male-dominated electronic music, and from what I can make of these past twelve months, women have undeniably entered the electro genre - and they are diminishing this stereotype with full force. Coming from all corners of the world, these synth-empowered females have been welcoming interest and praise from magazines and music blogs across the board - and let me say, the attention is well deserved. They don’t hide behind their swarms of synth; these women can [...]

The Chromatics strike again! This time, it's with an exceptional cover of "Ceremony" by New Order. Written by the late Ian Curtis and released in 1981 as New Order's very first single, the original song (which just happens to be my all-time favorite- ever), is one of the most haunting and beautiful tracks ever recorded. The Chromatics' version is almost unrecognizable until it hits that memorable, melodic riff. It's a bold, interesting take on a true indie rock classic.

With so many records this year, narrowing it down to a list of ten was simply impossible. But we had to stop somewhere, so hit the jump for our 30 favourites (not best, favourites ) of 2012. And if you're so inclined, let us know your own/what we might have missed in the comments below. 30. Cloud Nothings – Attack On Memory 29. Cold Specks – I Predict A Graceful Expulsion 28. Wild Nothing – Nocturne [...]

I've always said when compiling my year-end list that I don't choose my favourite albums of the year so much as they declare themselves to me. If it requires too much thought, it's probably more a case of trying to justify adding something that I know probably doesn't belong. But those albums that do pass muster are not, as you might think, necessarily the albums that I can't stop listening to. Rather, they're often the ones that I try to listen to the least, or at least sparingly, lest that intangible magic that I feel within its notes [...]
