It's been a long year. Scratch that, it's been a veeerrrry long year. From social revolutions to the end of our occupation of Iraq, from the death of celebrities and dictators to a man who sneezes bullets and the mystery of planking, the world experienced a slew of emotions and all sorts of cultural and political upheaval in 2011. And that's not even counting the plethora of music news that had the blogosphere abuzz this year . So, as the question begs, what comes next? Well, 2012. If you were to believe certain [...]

Throughout 2011 we have been offering you lots of free music. Here is La.Ga.Sta.'s most downloaded tracks of the year. It's no surprise that Magician's remix of Lykke Li's "I Follow Rivers" is top of the list. A huge remix that you can still hear coming out loud from the car stereos. There are some great tunes in there as well, from Rapture, M83 and Washed Out to Mylo, Discodeine, and Poolside. Not to mention Villa's take on Adele's "Rolling In The Deep" - another exclusive track from La.Ga.Sta. This is yours Top 20 chart. Fill it up (one more [...]
French producer Breakbot is one of few disco producers that has made me seriously consider buying roller skates. This guy is like the King Midas of disco - but instead of gold, everything he touches becomes infectiously funky and danceable. I challenge anyone to play a Breakbot (or Aeroplane for that matter) track and not dance around even a litte bit. I like to pretend I'm Kevin Bacon in 'Footloose,' convincing all the townspeople to get down by doing awesome choreographed dance sequences (on roller skates of course) to tracks like these. Enjoy! Make You Mine [...]

10. Kanye West - All of the Lights Even though I love this video, the concept was pretty much taken from Gaspar Noé's award-winning psycho-thriller , Enter the Void 's opening credits. I guess to Hype Williams, copying is a form of flattery. 9. Lana Del Rey - Born to Die 8. Metronomy - The Bay 7. The Strokes - Taken for a Fool [...]

I have been so blessed this past year in all aspects of my life. I graduated this past June from the University of Toronto with an Honours B.A. I interned at one of Toronto's most prestigious indie labels, Dine Alone Records. I had the opportunity to attend and provide media coverage for CMF 2011 and NXNE 2011. I created a Casting Call video for Much Music which I am so very proud of. It's been a great year - its truly been eye-opening and has resulted in a lot of personal development. I am so thankful to be surrounded by [...]

Benji Boko is back, fresh off his ridiculously amazing 902s infused official remix of Rizzle Kicks ' ' Mama Do The Hump ', to take on the boys of Chromeo and the younger Knowles sister. Benji has lifted away some of the bright disco vibe and replaced it with a funky chill one, that is full of chunky analog synths, pounding heavy drums and glittering keys that creates a track that is still just as playful as the original, but a little bit more sexy. Chromeo Official [...]
CHROME PLATED DISCO Following the runaway success of his L ittle Dragon remix Benji Boko keep up the pressure with a disco re-edit of Chromeo's "When The Night Falls". Featuring that girl from Destiny's Child. No not that one. Not that one either. Oh THAT one? Yeah that one.

Duo P-Thugg and Dave 1, the Montreal natives known as Chromeo started their Pop, Electro rise with unique elements like the quirky voice box-aided funk and synth techniques and style inspired by acts like Zapp. No doubt Chromeo is probably the best example of Electrofunk you'll hear anywhere. You can hear Chromeo's track "Fancy Footwork" in the movie Step Up 3D, "Bonafied Lovin'" was featured in Konami's Dance Dance Revolution X2 and their track "Don't Turn The Lights On" is featured on the EA game time "FIFA 11." Not only do they incorporate a wide background of melodic [...]

Here, Friday night turned out to be stacks of craic. I'd been in London all week and didn't really have a chance to promote the club. I was expecting it to be a wee bit quiet, and while it wasn't as busy as usual, there were loads of familiar faces down, which to be honest is a lot more fun than a tons more people that I don't know. I ended up playing a shed load of hip hop, which seemed to go down a treat. Seeing Nik Bannon , and Cassy Gillespie on the other side [...]

Grandtheft, one half of Team Canada DJs, has released great new mix. The mix follows one theme and that's that every song featured on this mix is by an artist from the Montreal area, which is where Grandtheft himself is from. The mix really showcases the diversity of sounds and the level of talent that [...]

Mayer Hawthorne is no stranger to this blog. In fact he's on here pretty damn regularly. I freaking love this guys sound. It's incredible. I first heard him about 8-9 years ago when he was djing/producing for Athletic Mic League out of Ann Arbor, MI under the name DJ Haircut. My how far he has come. I've since seen him live a few times and will continue to every chance I get. He just gets music and it gets him. Here's a few remixes. If you want the full collection of songs I've posted from him, search for him above. [...]
OK, this qualifies as an insanely busy night on the show circuit: ► Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds do the first of two nights at UCLA's Royce Hall behind their big-selling debut album. That's the video for "AKA... What a Life!," above, featuring Russell Brand and (at the 4:16 mark) a Low Flying Owls T-shirt. I loved that band. ► It's a fountain of folk-rock at the Music Box, where locals Dawes and the Belle Brigade join Portland's Blitzen Trapper , touring in support of their new album [...]

What a creative little mash. The vocals match up oh so well with that Deadmau5 backdrop and the transitions seem seamless. However, at times the vocals do get drowned out and near the end it all seems to fall apart - Chromeo and the beat appear to fall out of sync. But other than that, I love what Musicmatician did with this, blending vocals and beats into one seamless, quite comical mashup. "That tonight I'm fucking you." "Not romantic, too dramatic." Musicmatician Location: [...]
