Quick update from the road today... My wife and I are vacationing in our nation's capitol this week, but we took a little side trip up to Cooperstown, NY on Sunday to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Personal highlights for me at the HOF included seeing the Cincinnati Reds' 1976 World Series Trophy, a Reds' World Series ring from 1990, and the shoes Pete Rose wore when he got hit number 4,192 to break Ty Cobb's all-time hits record. I'm a die hard Cincinnati fan, if you [...]
:: Looks like Todd Snider enjoys baseball - and acid . Needless to say, he's a Dock Ellis fan, and proves it with a song about the Pittsburgh Pirate. I still prefer Chuck Brodsky 's song about Ellis. What about you ? :: According to Portugal. The Man , Brand New recently kicked them out of their green room. Trouble a-brewing? :: Usually Xbox Game with Fame events involve bands whose best days aren't 20 years in the rear view mirror and "cool" [...]

This is one of my favorite times of the year. The Major League Baseball season started this week. Even though my Cincinnati Reds are already 0-2 and will likely be out of the race by May... I still can't help but get excited for a new season. To honor the new season, here's a track from Chuck Brodsky's The Baseball Album . Chuck Brodsky: Lefty ( Buy Album )
The Major League Baseball season got into full swing yesterday, as my semi-hometown team (the Reds) lost a close game. It's almost like summertime is here. Except the entire United States east of the Mississippi was cold and wet. Not good baseball weather. So anyway, with sunnier skies around the bend and baseball heating up, it got me thinking about my favorite baseball-related jams. And that got me wondering where you guys stand on the issue. Is it the nostalgic-but-cheesy Centerfield ? Or maybe something a little hipper, like a song from The Baseball Project . [...]
On Dec. 19, former major league pitcher Dock Ellis passed away at the age of 63 . While I knew who he was for a few reasons (i.e. being a baseball nerd with no life), most people would only know him for one thing: Pitching a no-hitter while allegedly high on LSD. Why would you care? You probably wouldn't. Even though he was a great pitcher, loose cannon and eventually an anti-drug activist. But it gives me an excuse to post this song from Chuck Brodsky , affectionately known by some as [...]

It had been more than a few years since our last getaway to Smith Mountain Lake. I've always enjoyed the simple peace and beauty of the area. When Smith Mountain Lake was first developed its shores were spotted with trailers, fishing shacks, and modest lakeside homes. The home where we stayed on this last visit, pictured above, is typical of the homes built along the shores as the waters filled in behind the new dam in the 1970s. Although Smith Mountain Lake is located between the mountain cities of Roanoke and Lynchburg, it is accessible only by [...]

Thoughts of a return to the road have brought mixed feelings. On one hand I have always enjoyed the freedom that is part of having no ties to the land. I also miss the days of working long hard days for a year and then taking off for three or four months to enjoy what is really important in this life. Now that I have been settled in one place for over a decade, I am beginning to see some of the advantages of setting roots. Why, just last month we were looking at farmland in the [...]
