The long-running acoustic punk Revival Tour made its first-ever stop in Lawrence (or Kansas City) on Friday night. The Granada Theater in Lawrence was filled with folks in the mood for a sing-along. Surprisingly, though, the place wasn't packed. Whether it was the fact that Bad Religion took everyone's money on Monday, or that people weren't aware that the frontmen for the Get Up Kids, Rise Against, and Hot Water Music were playing solo acoustic, the crowd was far smaller than I was planning on. That being [...]

It feels like Jimmy Islip has been working on his solo debut for absolutely ages. Then again, being involved in every band ever so many different projects (The Magnificent, That Fucking Tank, e.t.c.) is always going to take it's toll. Thankfully, the wait is almost over. The Yorkshireman plans to release 'The Wild West Riding' sometime in early 2013 and has drafted in a whole host of guests to make the record even more special. 'It Tastes Bitter', a song that Jimmy has been playing live for a while, features one such guest. Jon Snodgrass - [...]
The Revival Tour enters its sixth year in 2013, featuring a revolving lineup of musicians including festival mastermind Chuck Ragan (Hot Water Music), Dave Hause (The Loved Ones), Tim McIlrath (Rise Against), Jenny O. , Rocky Votolato , Jenny Owen Youngs , and more TBA. Says the press release: Loosely structured in the form of old-fashioned folk musician get-togethers, The Revival Tour is an ensemble collective in which the participating musicians collaborate and jam, frequently creating unique and inspired once-in-a-lifetime moments of brilliance - often multiple times in a single [...]

© 2012 Tiffiny Kallina This year's been pretty big for Cory Branan and it seems like he wants to carry on riding that wave right the way 2013 too. The raucous Tennessee singer/songwriter was in the UK recently as part of the Revival Tour, so Hannah and I had a chat to him before the show in Manchester. He talks about his next big touring plans - hinting at the, now announced, US tour with The Gaslight Anthem - and, seemingly not content to rest on his laurels after the success of 'Mutt', he's already talking about [...]

© 2012 Emma Speakman I've seen a lot of people play an acoustic guitar over the years, but no one compares to Cory Branan. He can go from playing soft and subtly one minute to beating the crap out of his guitar the next, never once making you feel like he doesn't know what he's doing. Not only that, but he's a damn fine songwriter too and it was great to have him sit and play a brand new song for Loitering With Intent. Here's Cory playing 'The Highway Home' - a song that, [...]

© 2012 Greenland Photography The Revival Tour has left European shores for another year, but whilst the gang was in Manchester Hannah and I caught up with Emily Barker. The Australian singer/songwriter - who supported Frank Turner with, her band, The Red Clay Halo and released 'Almanac' last year - talked to us about her multiple projects, her latest single and dealing with the spontaneous nature of The Revival Tour.

Chuck Ragan recently brought The Revival Tour back to Europe, this time with Cory Branan, Rocky Votolato, Emily Barker and Jay Malinowski in tow. Whilst in Manchester, Chuck was kind enough to take part in a session for Loitering With Intent. He performed 'Nothing Left To Prove', the opening track from 20112s 'Covering Ground'. The tour wrapped up this week in Leeds, but I'm sure Chuck will be back again, with another gang of awesome musicians and maybe even a new record, in 2013.

The European leg of The Revival Tour is slowly winding down, but from their performances the other night you couldn't tell the acoustic troupe had been on the road for as long as they have been (but more on that later). In Manchester I met up with Emily Barker and we recorded this session. The Australian singer/songwriter - who released 'Almanac' with The Red Clay Halo last year - has lots of plates spinning at the moment and played a new song, 'Tuesday', for Loitering With Intent. Thanks to Andy Greenland of Jukebox [...]

Woot! It was nice to get back to the podcast. Mad props to Charles for keeping it active and awesome the past two months. So awesome, in fact, we’re gonna start alternating months so you’ll hear him again in November. Like I was saying though, I am naturally a night person so I find actual enjoyment in staying up till 3:00 in the morning making these on Friday nights and after 2 months off, I had plenty of music to pick from. I tried to keep the podcast from being a facsimile of the radio show and I [...]
"This book is dedicated to those who have, and continue to live a life on the road, and to our loved ones who've dealt with our absence which is result of this way of life and work," begins The Road Most Traveled, an inspiring assemblage of stories, tales and anecdotes about life on the road and how to survive it. Told by The Camaraderie Collective which consists of members of assorted punk and indie rock bands such as Flogging Molly, Samiam, Social Distortion, Frank Turner, Joe Gittlemen, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Dropkick Murphy's Al Barr, William Elliot Whitmore, managers, bus drivers, [...]

© 2012 Anthony Barlow If you didn't know already, Helen Chambers is a fantastic singer/songwriter from York. I first met Helen when she supported Austin Lucas last May and, since then, she's played far too many Under The Bridge shows and we've become good friends. In the past twelve months, she's been a part of The Revival Tour, released a split record with Chuck Ragan and played shows with Dan Andriano and Dave Hause. How's that for a CV? Now, whilst that list speaks volumes, all you should really need to know [...]

...Pitch black spiraling and inventive cry baby music - Hamish Adams (Bangers) I was first introduced to Sam Russo just over a year ago when he played a house show in Manchester. I'd been sent a little of his music in preparation and I loved it. The recordings were rough, but his talent for songwriting was immediately apparent. This became even clearer after watching him play live. I now understood why so many people were excited that he was in town. After his set, I remember drunkenly introducing myself and buying a t-shirt. For some reason, he gave me [...]
Wednesday's shows — are we spoiled, or what? ► Tonight is about all things Miike Snow . The Swedish/American indie-pop mind-meld of Christian Karlsson, Pontus Winnberg and Andrew Wyatt is riding high after the late-March release of their second album, the eclectic "Happy to You," and their set Saturday night at Coachella was bonkers. They do the second of two sold-out midweek shows tonight at the El Rey Theatre, supported by Wolf Gang. Meanwhile, Miike Snow's strange video for "The Wave" might pique your interest; it continues a narrative started in the video for [...]
