Hey Salacious readers! Welcome to the May edition of the BoB, this edition is going to be badass. In the past I tried to focus on the best tracks overall, some of those were paid tracks. From this point on the BoB will focus on the best FREE tracks of the month. So get ready to download some kick ass tunes! Standout track: One Republic - If I lose myself (Kastra Remix) [...]
Tweet SGTMT HQ is a joyous place. We're frequently celebrating the wonder of life through the medium of dance. Monday is ballet, Tuesday is tango and Wednesday, well.. it's probably best we don't say. Tom, gets upset you see. He's got all the moves, he's got the best outfits but sadly his feet are two small for his new tap shoes. Poor little button. Nothing fuels our moves more than a perfectly produced remix and today we've found such a tune. Penguin Prison has remixed Change by Churchill and produced something [...]
It was only a couple months ago that we had Denver alt-folk/rockers Churchill on the DC RADAR and here they are again with a few fresh tracks in a new EP The War Within due next week -- four songs that also serve as a preview of the band's A+M/Octone full-length debut due this summer. One of the important components in Churchill's new musical mix (what we've praised as "freewheeling, boisterous and ebullient") is the studio guidance of Brendan O'Brien, the veteran and highly-respected producer who has worked with everyone [...]

It's not summer yet, but thank goodness we have music that can take us to a summery place. I don't know why this song does that for me, but I'll try to explain. First, Penguin Prison has a way of channeling ocean vibes. Does that sound funny? It is kind of funny I guess, I think I mean that there's a swiftness to what he does to music. EMPT loves Penguin Prison so it comes as no surprise to you guys that I take pleasure in praising the man behind the music, otherwise known as Chris Glover. There's also a [...]

Happy middle of the week everybody! The Jam Jar is back once again, and we couldn't be more stoked about this week's list, which is packed full of glittering gems, pure bliss, and deep grooves. This roster includes a killer remix from Coucheron of the fast-rising duo Lemaitre , a heavily energetic disco take on Keljet's new jam from Mighty Mouse , and one for the late night hook-ups courtesy of Tarquin – and of course a whole lot more. So be sure to get your hands on each and [...]

The amount of excellent music released today has been massive. Penguin Prison rounds out the night by dropping this awesome remix of Churchhill's single "Change". Where the original is a folk rock sing-a-long, Penguin Prison does his signature thing and transforms the track into a shiny work of disco. The essence of Churchill's original is kept in tact, but now bold synths dance all over the place creating one very upbeat electro jam. This track will definitely have you moving. I recommend that you take advantage of the free download. [...]

A funky new remix from Penguin Prison of new pop group Churchill's "Change". The original shoots for Adele success heights but PP brings the bright-eyed Bethany Kelly and company down to a cool, terrestrial disco floor.

New York synth pop producer Penguin Prison has been pretty quiet since he released his self-titled debut album on Downtown Records last year, well he's back remixing Denver alt-folk rockers Churchill and their 2012 single 'Change'. It's part power pop, part retro disco with just enough electronic punch to keep things interesting, check it out below.

Denver alt-folk rockers Churchill have been blowing up the airwaves and the internet with their smash hit "Change," off their 2012 Change EP (A&M/Octone). What better way to follow this up than with a remix from electro-pop whiz kid Penguin Prison . Churchill is currently on a college tour with Phillip Phillips and will follow that up with an April/May support slot for PINK! in Europe. Full tour dates and more info here . The best remixes are usually the ones that completely change the feel of a track and remind you that a good song is a good song no matter what instruments, sounds, and production approaches bring it to life. For Penguin Prison 's remix of Churchill's "Change," he takes out the organic feel of the Denver rockers' soaring rock anthem and dresses it in synths, bouncy bass, and percussion that makes it impossible to sit still while listening. Unsurprisingly, the song is no less effective and that chorus resonates with just as much energy. Churchill's Change [...]

XL1022s Chili Cook Off , one of Richmond's biggest hard rock and metal fests, has announced its lineup for this year's festival. It's a mix of old and new as Three Days Grace , Matt & Kim and Eve 6 headline the show along with Flyleaf , Twenty One Pilots , Churchill , Breaking Laces and local rockers Against Grace (congrats, guys!) are all on tap for rocking out with chili. Reaction to [...]

Denver's Churchill started out as a two piece act and since expanded to include more members, including Bethany Kelly, who works the vocals and keys. It is Kelly's voice that first drew me to the band. I'm always a fan of female singers and Kelly's voice and delivery reminded me of vocal work done by artists of eras gone. This is a pretty catchy pop song. I don't know much about this band other then they are from Denver and released an EP named Change last year. I read their SXSW Profile and was genuinely pleased [...]
Add Denver's Churchill to the growing list of bands like Delta Rae, The Lumineers and Shovels & Rope who take acoustic music and turn it, Mumford-and-Sons-style, into something freewheeling, boisterous and ebullient. We haven't tossed around the term folk/rock in a while but this hybrid of stomping, high-energy kick and wailing vocal harmonies has pretty much redefined the concept of "unplugged" from mellow to musical maelstrom. Things changed for Churchill a few years ago when founders Tim Bruns and Mike Morter moved from guitar/mandolin duo to a full band by adding a rhythm [...]

As I've mentioned on many occasions, I keep a running playlist throughout the year. You've seen bits and pieces of it here but as 2012 comes to a close, here is the final product. Full of the singles that I listened to on repeat to the tracks I put on every mixtape this year and now with the added bonus of being influenced by the year end lists of my friends and contemporaries. It's all over the place genre-wise, but I think it is a pretty solid collection. Amanda Palmer - [...]
