by teepoo Here's a lovely new track by Vancouver's Cinderpop. This is the first single off their upcoming album Manic Sparkles . Despite that title, their pop sound is much more focused and well developed. I love the synthy string touch in the background of this.
Vancouver's Cinderpop have been called "space pop" for their otherworldly way around luscious melodies, but in the last four years they've more likely been called missing in action. Even their official web page hasn't logged any activity since 2009, but that will all change soon, I'm sure as the band prepare to unveil their new album, Manic Sparkles. Quiet though they may have been on the music landscape, Manic Sparkles provides evidence that they've been far from idle. Oh, Canada. Mythic land of my ancestors and indie rock- it's basically the gift that keeps giving. One of the latest gifts is Cinderpop's A Lesson In Science . The Vancouver band makes pop rock that draws inspiration from both the Beatles and crunchy indie rock, and the album see-saws between guitars and pianos, but stays bright and fun throughout. Sometimes a good pop song is like looking through your old yearbook. Within a few chords, the riff reminds you of a great summer day or friendships you've long since forgotten. If one were to come across an artist who opens up an album with a track that depicts a desire to design one's own fantasy universe in a laboratory like some mad scientist, they would most likely assume the musical style to be largely unclassifiable, experimental in form and delivery. After all, most accessible pop music contains lyrical content that appeals to the mainstream, even if subtle underlying meanings are constantly prevalent. I suppose you could say that Cinderpop contradict such stereotypes, incorporating a form of accessibly infectious power-pop over lyrics that are anything but predictable in interpretation. [...]
